Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A billion stars for McDonnells Bar if I could. The hospitality and atmosphere at this bar is worth traveling to Ireland to experience. I’ve never felt so welcomed. Padraig the owner will be one of those people who you won’t soon forget. Not only is he warm, welcoming and attentive, he plays the guitar and sings like a pro!!!!

On our trip to Ireland, we went into this little bar, on our way around Belmullet, a trip to see the town where my husband's grandfather was born. Belmullet may be a bit off the beaten track and out of the tourist's way, but it is worth the outing to step foot in Padraig's pub and to hear his stories and songs. Have a pint of Guinness and sit at the bar! This place is one of a kind and your welcome will include a firm handshake and a big smile!

Stopped off here for an afternoon drink during our road trip. Very warm welcome from Padraig, what a lovely guy. Was generally interested in where we were from and how we had found the pub. Thanks to the guys from Kerry who were also in, enjoyed the chat. Afternoon was made when Padraig picked up his guitar and gave us a song. Only wish we could have been there for an evening session, can imagine it being a great night.

What a fabulous bar! The minute we stepped in the door the owners welcomed us with a huge handshake and a pint of Guinness on the house! Everyone was super friendly and it’s clearly popular with locals and visitors alike. Wonderful!

Mc Donnell's Bar is a must if your visiting Belmullet, it had been over 12 years since i was last there , walking back in to Mc Donnells and meeting Padraig, felt the same as id never left ,.Padraig Conroy is one of the most genuine publicans you will ever meet, always watching out for his customers ... the bar is aptly named as The Lobster Pot , try getting out !!!... you have to visit to enjoy the unique atmosphere this bar Offers

No covid cert checks, no social distancing, no wearing masks and no table service. Hot spot for covid spread. There is a token sign in book at the door but no one making sure it is filled in. 3 staff members trying to cope with customers 3-4 people deep at the bar. Can see why it is so popular with a younger demographic. It seems a nice pub when you look past the chaos of it

My buddy had been here 5 years ago and made sure we visited it on our trip back from Carne golf links. The owner Padhraic spent time with us telling us the history of the place and his family. Thank you Padhraic!
Unfortunately we had a long drive back and could only stay for one pint.

Visit family in Mayo several times a year and one of first port of calls when back in the Wild West is McDonnells for a pint of the black stuff. The most hospitable barman/owner you’ll ever meet and they serve up a cracking pint of Guinness. They show all the Premier league games, rugby and GAA so a great spot for watching sport as well. A traditional Irish bar with an open turf fire giving it a cosy feel and trad music sessions at weekends. If you’re lucky Padraig, the owner, might give you a complimentary pint and pizza if you stay long enough :)

Well what can I say if your looking for a real irish welcome you'll certainly get one in McDonnells bar. We were only in through the door and we were welcomed by the owner. He shook our hands and said to us nice to meet you. He chatted with us. When we were leaving he came over and shook our hands again and said thankyou for calling in. Such a lovely man. Would definitely go back. 🍷🍺🍺🍻

I travelled through Belmullet by myself for a fortnight and spent many nights at McDonnell's. It's a very welcoming pub with a friendly atmosphere and cheerful, hospitable staff. I felt very welcome here as a solo traveler and have some very funny memories of the place. Definitely stop in for a pint of Guinness if you're travelling to belmullet.
