- JemmbarrNew York City, New York179 contributionsWarm WelcomeOn our trip to Ireland, we went into this little bar, on our way around Belmullet, a trip to see the town where my husband's grandfather was born. Belmullet may be a bit off the beaten track and out of the tourist's way, but it is worth the outing to step foot in Padraig's pub and to hear his stories and songs. Have a pint of Guinness and sit at the bar! This place is one of a kind and your welcome will include a firm handshake and a big smile!Visited July 2023Written 30 July 2023

This was our second trip to Belmullet. I went with my wife and brother again. Our first trip was just before Covid hit and we could not wait to get back to Belmullet and McConnells. It is still the best bar in the best town in the best country. We went two nights during our recent trip and had a blast each night. The owner, Padraig, even remembered us from four years earlier. He talked to us and bought us a round of drinks. He must have a great memory since he sees many people each night. All the bartenders were super friendly and great bartenders. They were busy all night pouring drinks and busing tables. They are also great dancers. Each night we listened to great music and made new friends from Belmullet and other parts of Ireland. One night we talked to Mike and Sarah from Sligo for 2 hours. We really enjoyed it and learned more about Ireland. We can't wait until we go back to Belmullet again.

"The Lobster Pot" indeed! From the moment I walked in, the owner Padraig was the epitome of Irish hospitality! He's really award-worthy! Despite arriving alone in the afternoon, I was soon ensconced with Ian and the local lads for a few 😉 rounds of unforgettable craic. Next was a proper Irish seisun - she (so sorry I forget her name! ) sang and played the guitar and fiddle seemingly at the same time and had the entire place singing and
dancing THEN turns out one of my drinking buddies is the DJ for a contiued fun city pure joy-fest of song and dance! Next thing I knew the lights were on. Hello and love to all I met - it's a truly very special place that I can't wait to get back to!!! 💚

My buddy had been here 5 years ago and made sure we visited it on our trip back from Carne golf links. The owner Padhraic spent time with us telling us the history of the place and his family. Thank you Padhraic!
Unfortunately we had a long drive back and could only stay for one pint.
