We wanted Traditional Irish ‘Trad’ music. In Dingle in the off season, with a friendly crowd, polite bar men, and solid musicians. We found it here at Nelligans. It wasn’t so crowded so we could sit. But I imagine during the season it would be hard to find a place to sit down. The crowd was almost all tourists, the musicians all “local” unbelievably talented and when they sang an emotional element I’m not talented enough to explain. The crowd did not make a sound during much of the music. I hope you get the same experience.
I spent time speaking to one of the men behind the bar, he knew whiskies from all over the world. So his recommendations were solid.
I really liked this little spot, (so much so we made it back on night 2)

We were looking for traditional music and hit the jackpot here. As we walked in, 2 people were just getting up from a table right in front so we grabbed the seats and had the best seats in the house for watching and listening to the musicians. Great and friendly service at the bar for a crowded evening. Wish we'd discovered this pub on our first night in Dingle instead of our last! The only bad memory is that I left a bag with a t-shirt I'd purchased earlier in the day and didn't realize it until late at night. When we drove by leaving town, they weren't open yet so that's a shirt I'll never get to wear.

I could not have been happier than to have found this place on our travels to Dingle. Other spots like Dingle Bar are much more touristy and feel staged and manufactured for the tourists. This small pub was bristling with warm energy and a beautiful local Irish spirit. I had the pleasure of ducking in here out of the rain one afternoon by chance and began chatting with the manager Meabh. She was just opening up and she was inviting and full of wonderful Irish hospitality. I had a pint and went on my way. As I walked around town and asked locals where was the best traditional music in Dingle to hear that night many said “oh you should go to Nelligans”. What are the odds! So I popped back in that night and had the best evening of live music I can remember. This is where true traditional Irish music is being played. They have a drop-in spirit there where folks can come and join the small ensemble to play traditional “trad” Irish music and the talent of these local musicians is incredible. They believe in keeping the authentic traditional music alive and you’ll hear fiddles, accordions, guitar, singing. I can’t say enough how happy I am to have had the pleasure of experiencing this pub on my travels or having been able to meet the lovely Meabh. Who by the way it turns out is also an incredibly talented musician from a line of famous musicians and plays there as well!

When in Dingle, a visit to Neligan's is a must. We were told to get there early to get a good seat. We came early enough to get the best seats in the house right next to the dance floor. We enjoyed a couple of beers and chatted with the bartender. Finally, people began filling up the place in a rather short time. The dancing was spectacular. It was also not for the beginner. These dancers are fantastic and they dance fast. I learned square dancing in high school so I was familiar with some of the moves. The caller was wonderful. She explained the name of the dance, its origin, and the necessary moves. While I did not dance one step, I was worn out from watching. The Begley family has done a great job at keeping this Irish tradition alive and making Neligan's Bar an absolute must!

We happened to be in town on the day when the locals gathered to play together at this local bar. It was such a fun experience to listen to the music and talk with the locals. We sat for hours listening to stories and hearing local music, it was by far a fun evening. We could have gone back every night of our trip if it had all be located in Dingle.

There aren’t enough words to describe Neligan’s Bar from the friendly staff to the traditional Irish music and set dancing. Every night there is different Irish musicians playing bringing the bar to life. No matter where you are from or who you are you instantly feel apart of the family that all work at the bar. If you get the chance to come to Dingle on Monday you definitely need to stop in and take part in the Traditional West Kerry Irish Set dancing it is a memory you will never forget.

Neligans has been a truly life changing place. Everyone who works in Neligans are amazing, kind and welcoming. They make you feel apart of their family. The local musicians are truly talented beyond compare. The set dancing Monday nights is so much fun and if you are in Dingle, you should not miss it! Leaving Neligans when I had to leave Dingle was very hard, but I know I have a welcoming place to return to when I come back. I truly can’t say enough great things about Neligans!

Had a great time at Nelligan's on a recent trip that took us through Dingle. The musicians who showed the night we were there were fantastic. We didn't know what to expect because it was really quiet when we walked in. Music didn't start until after nine and then the place was packed. The staff is really friendly too - great experience!

What a great night spent in Nelligan’s pub in Dingle! There was great music, dancing, and welcoming atmosphere for the evening. We had such a wonderful evening spent among new friends as we enjoyed the group participation encouraged by the owner, Dara! What a cultural experience in a fantastic place like Dingle to remind me of my Irish roots! Sightseeing in Ireland includes a visit to a lively pub like this one!

Dara Herlihy and his crew know how to entertain. The traditional music sessions and dance were the perfect accompaniment to the fantastic drinks and service. Everyone left feeling like family. It was interactive and spirited. Great fun! Definitely worth your time.
