About
Molly Gallivan’s cottage and traditional farm invites you to take a step back in time to experience the simple country lifestyle in rural Ireland before the days of electricity and modern conveniences. Molly’s enchanting cottage is over 200 years old and her farm is complete with animals, fowl and traditional farm machinery. Molly’s old Tea Shop is very unique in Ireland, here you will taste locally made foods cooked and baked in the traditional fashion. We also hold traditional Irish evenings at Molly Gallivan’s cottage, these are nights of Irish food, music, song, dance and story telling, re-enacting the old customs that took place in Irish homes. Advanced booking is required for our Traditional Irish Evenings please contact us for availability and prices.

- doupnikkaRoanoke, Virginia872 contributionsI must seeWe are visiting Kenmare for the week and we had a break on the weather so we came here. It was a really nice surprise. We toured the farm and listened to a 10-minute video in one of the buildings that was very interesting. We were provided a brochure that pointed out places on the property for us as we walked around. They weren't officially opened today, so we didn't see that the tea area offered any food, but we did enjoy shopping for family.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 March 2023
- Constance BEast Dubuque, Illinois46 contributionsAmazingly friendly place! Our group from US with Gem Tours visited today, yes it was cold today but we had so much fun. This family was so friendly and knowledgeable of their area. Also talented, and authentic. We found ourselves smiling the whole time. Don't pass this up, if you have the chance, you must stop. Even though their power was out all day and they had to use candles, this actually made it even more special. The whole group smiled all the way home.Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 23 March 2023
- rft23Kansas City, Missouri36 contributionsMolly Gallivan’s is a great place to stop on the way to the Beara Peninsula!Nice to see in a previous review that this tourist stop was open. Thank you Trip Advisor for that information. This is a fun stop for shopping and some historical information. The owners are delightful. The view of a verdant green valley stretches before you across from Molly Gallivan’s. It is close to Kenmare and a great afternoon drive. Beara Peninsula is the most beautiful destination at the end of this route. Head for Healy Pass for some other-worldly natural views. This is my second visit to this fun destination.Visited March 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 6 April 2023
- Rooney1 contributionA magical experienceWe stumbled across Molly Gallivan’s and it was one of the best things we’ve done on our trip so far! Frances and Stephen both chatted with my mum and I, and told us in depth about the amazing history of Molly’s. The shop was incredible and we got some really beautiful knitwear, we had a delicious cup of tea and a scone, and we then explored the farm, which included bottle feeding some adorable lambs and saying hello to ducks, chickens, a pig, a cow, and donkeys. The little trail is so informative and worth doing, and be sure to look at the amazing Neolithic stone formations at the top of the farm. It was an experience we’ll always remember.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 3 May 2023
- Molly TRedwood City, California1 contributionBest scones and baby lambs!Wonderful experience! Very well preserved historic site with a great farm tour including an opportunity to bottle feed the baby lambs. The hosts are descendants of Mollys and very welcoming. Best scones I’ve had in Ireland!Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 14 May 2023
- jxx95951,460 contributionsMostly for shoppersAn old and mildly amusing Irish house of modest appeal. It’s mostly a cover for a retail shop with lots of Irish goods. Many of the things for sale are perfectly fine for those who need another shopping opportunity. There are food and drink opportunities here that we did not explore.Visited May 2023Written 15 May 2023
- Bob P1 contributionGreat place to visitA lot of fun with a little bit of history. Enjoyed a very delicious meal of traditional Irish stew. Great look back in time with the story of one very resourceful widow. Great gift shop too!Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 24 May 2023
- Sue A4 contributionsInformative and fun placeI went to Molly Gallivan’s cottage with a bus tour. Enjoyed the informative talk; it is a steep walk. Very interesting shopping. A small cafe with great apple square with cream. Beautiful views and well worth the stop.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 June 2023
- Kristie MGeelong, Australia1 contributionHistoric farm 🤩Myself, mum and dad stumbled across this and decided to go in! It was amazing learning about Molly and how hard she worked after being a widow. You can feed the cutest lambs and see the two besties (cow and pig) cuddling up together! I would recommend to anyone driving throughVisited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 8 June 2023
- BlueMaxx14Brighton, New York349 contributionsDefinitely worth a stop!Delightful stop while we drove around the Ring of Beara. Quaint cottage from the outside, we were greeted by a staff member who gave us a quick and informative historical background for both the cottage and the famous original occupant. There is a small historical museum area to explore, some food and snack options, and an assortment of gifts and clothing items that just “keeps on going” out the back door into other buildings and open areas. Selection and Prices, when compared to our overall 2 weeks shopping experience, were very reasonable. Definitely worth a stop!Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 June 2023

Steve and Frances were not only amazing hosts, but they took us back in time as we sat in the little cottage and watched Frances make bread to cook in the hearth. Then Mike offered us a taste Poitin as we learned about the incredible Molly Gallivan and with what courage and creativity she kept her family going amidst tough times. The best part was lunch in the converted barn--delicious homemade soup and bread on a rainy day and Mike sang us some Irish songs. Great experience and would definitely recommend visiting!

Molly’s is a wonderful view of a live working farm from early 1800 in Ireland. Steve and his family truly keep the history and spirit of Ireland alive. The cottages are original and this is one of the very few places to get a true handmade Irish sweater with the Irish wool. This is a beautiful ride to get to, a grand time to be had when there and a small sadness when it’s time to go.

We stopped in during a tour of Ireland and had so much fun! Steven provided us with a history of the home of his ancestors (very entertaining!), and demonstrated how to make Irish coffee (delicious!). The shopping was fantastic and authentic…loved it all!!!

Wow! What a wonderful Gem. We stumbled upon Molly’s Gallivans while we were wrapping up a day of hiking. Steven and his family have such a delightful business with the most hospitality I’ve ever experienced. We did the full whiskey tour story telling of Molly. This is the home of Molly and her 3rd generation ancestor's have made it such a wonderful place to visit. Make the effort to stop by and visit.

What a wonderful insight into life and times in centuries past.
Being in the actual cottage and adjoining buildings brought home, the reality of the challenges. Molly and her family must have faced. Wonderfully entertained by Molly’s descendants and in spite of the weather had a great time.
Definitely a highlight of our Back Roads Tour.

We stayed there and walked around. In general it is free to walk along the lanes in the garden. Nearby down The Valley is also Stone fort and stone ring etc. This is a couple of Euro. For us 10 Euro for the whole family.
Hi we are a couple and we are looking for a job. You look for workers in the farm for some months?

I already answered the question..see above. BUT I can also say that the scenic shots all around the place is also worthy of a stop even if the shop is not open.
