The ruins are now part of a golf course and the castle 's portal has been closed to make room for a corrugated iron shelter where the course's lawn mower are likely kept. Despite the surprising adaptation, the ruins are worth a look.

Ballyheigue is about 10 miles north ofTralee. Please relocate marker to the village at the north of trade bay. The castle is of little interest and not really a tourist attraction, however it is visually attractive from a distance.
