Nutcote was designed by prominent architect B. J. Waterhouse and built for May Gibbs and her husband, James Ossili Kelly, in 1925. May occupied the house for 44 years until her death in 1969. This cottage was saved from developers by the local council and now is a museum/memorial to May Gibbs. The site is managed and run by volunteers, who are knowledgable, friendly and enthusiastic. Highly recommended as a quiet spot to visit - be sure to take the guided tour!

This home made famous due to it's previous owner May Gibbs who wrote 'The Gum Nut Babies'. Short trip across the harbour to get there. Tour guide had many interesting tales of May, her work and her life there.

A perfectly lovely way to see a famous writer's home. May Gibbs was a wonderful author and cartoonist. The garden is delightful and the story behind it is enthralling. Why not take a ferry from Circular Quay? There's a sweet cafe to have a tea and some creamy yummy scones. Go see it.

I wanted to take my young daughter on an outing that she would remember- a great choice. She loved it, and so did I. There was colouring in activities and dress-ups for the kids, and for me the tour of May Gibb's house was fascinating. There is many period pieces still in the house, and the guide did a fantastic... We took our grandchildren to see May Gibbs' house and garden. We all enjoyed the guided tour of the house and loved the harbour views from the garden. It is an easy 10 min. walk from Neutral Bay wharf - a short ferry ride from Circular Quay. A very enjoyable day out.

This is a great spot to visit especially if you are a fan, but you don't have to be to enjoy it. It's in a lovely, tranquil spot with great views and it just oozes history. I've been three times over the years with overseas visitors who all found it charming. The gift shop is a great place to pick... More

This is the second time we've made the trek while in Sydney to find it closed. Don't trust the Tripadvisor indication of open/closed. Ring or check venue website. Ferry to Neutral Bay (a bit of a hill - 6minutes) or Kuraba Point (lots of steps - 8 minutes).

A lovely look into the life of May Gibbs for all the gum nut baby fans. Beautiful location on Sydney harbour. Conveniently near the ferry although there are a lot of stairs - almost 100. It's not a big attraction, but a lovely piece of history, in a gorgeous location.

Howdy all, May Gibbs is an Australian Legend. This property is where she wrote, drew and painted all her books. It takes every child to an exciting place and opens up there imagination. I have bought many beautiful things here and the staff are excellent and very helpful. Catch a ferry from the city to Kurraba Point on the Neutral... More
