Great Venue
Oct 2021
We stayed for 2 nights for a wedding, our room was lovely and very clean with a comfortable king size bed. Food was very good and a great choice for breakfast. Staff were very friendly and from what I could see, hard working.
This is definitely a place for "golf" lovers to stay and play but also a great venue to hold a wedding.

Needs some serious investment

The facilities should be out of this world given it’s superb location and scenery.

The whole place is tired, the staff are over worked and really fed up! Such a shame but hopefully an upgrade is on the horizon according to local gossip…..

Excellent food
Sep 2021
Attended as a conference delegate, so I was not responsible for any of the booking arrangements, so I cannot comment on VFM. The comments are my own observations and not representative of the company.
The food and conference provisions were excellent. The food never stopped coming. There were the occasional issues of insufficient cups or coffee, but quickly remedied. Lovely setting looking over the 18th green.
The meals were superb too. Breakfast was excellent, although I can see where the comments from others come from about balancing large lids and plates and trying to serve yourself.
The rooms, I would have to agree with some others, who say they are a bit dated. The colours and carpets could use a refresh and the bathroom floors do have lots of goopy silicone and mold on them and missing grout. Everything works and the bed is comfy. You may wish to choose a view of the 18th fairway with balcony as opposed to the car park. WiFi and Climate control are very good. I did not play golf. 5 star conference. Rooms are 3 star.

A Five-Star Experience
Sep 2021
Reading other reviews, it's clear that not everyone enjoys the five-star stay that we had at this fabulous resort. We had booked two nights, three rounds of golf, dinner bed and breakfast in a Superior Room overlooking the 18th hole through Golfbreaks and were not disappointed.
Our room was lovely with a huge Super Kingsize bed with crisp cotton bedlinen and wonderful pillows. The room was soundproofed so we had zero noise while we slept and felt as if we were in a haven of peace, regardless of the fact that the hotel was full.
Staff were excellent; friendly and efficient. No complaints whatsoever. Food in the restaurant was very good. A limited choice of dishes means that they are served quickly and to a high standard. Fish is fresh and well-cooked; there are always vegetarian options.
Breakfast was also well managed and hassle-free. Bacon wasn't as crisp as I would have liked but the eggs were deep golden and there was a good choice of continental options for those of us who don't fancy a cooked breakfast.
As for the golf, the Signature course is not for the novice golfer! There are some exceptional holes and you need to be a long-hitter to carry water, gorges and hazards but it is spectacular in design and setting. The resort course is more forgiving and fun to play.

We arrived on a monday morning and was welcomed liked old friends ,our room wasn't going to be ready till afternoon but was allowed to use any of facilities if we wished ,our feature room was lovely looking out on to the 18th hole of the nicklause course so was great to watch ,very comfortable and clean .gowns . slippers and toiletries was on tap so to speak ,everything was in a short walking distance ,bars restaurants pool and spa ,
My hubby played the nicklause course on tuesday and I went to chill round the pool and book some treatments but everything was fully booked for the week so should have booked in advance when booking the golf and meals ,was disappointed that there was only 2 beds and one chair round the 3 pools but that is not the fault of the staff or hotel but the situation with covid, the food is very very good and very well thought out and we couldn't have has nicer waiters who were all young and very pleasant , hope to book again very soon with the family for a nice week and will book all the treatments in one go highly recommend x 5 *****

Great golf, shame about the hotel
Sep 2021 • Friends
Booked through a golf travel company for a three night break including dinner bed breakfast and golf. We paid separately for one night to arrive a day early. The car park is big but you struggle to park at certain times so end up in parents bays, on the grass etc.
Check in was easy and our extra night paid separately was great, a lovely room with balcony overlooking the 18th Green. Seemed refurbished. The following day we moved to our pre booked rooms for three nights. We went from 4 star to 2 star. Our room was across the corridor overlooking the car park. No balcony, tired bathroom, cracked tile, much smaller. Our friends were in a disabled room, wet room that flooded, next to the exit from the bar so very noisy also. The breakfast is a farce. There are two or three areas to eat, but only one breakfast buffet. There is a long table with continental and cold foods, a small toaster and minimal amount of bread for it, and a tightly squeezed in hot buffet. Each hot food is covered by a metal tin lid, but if you take a lid off, another person cannot open another lid. Also due to the number of people the food runs out very quickly so alot of the trays are empty. Or in the case of the sausages, most are available due to the fact there is a slight part of each sausage cooked and the rest anaemic! The area near the breakfast buffet is for societies so becomes very busy, loud, and crowded. The other areas are more relaxed but you have to eat and therefore enter the forray.
In the evening, the dinner is a choice of about 4 mains starters and desserts. The societies again are sectioned off. The main restaurant is very nice and the staff very friendly. Unfortunately, what you see is what you get. We asked for chips instead of dauphinose potatoes, couldn't be done (yet chips on menu with steak), asked also for a side portion of chips, or mushrooms, or onion rings. No chance. Very friendly the staff, and hard working, but the hotel could make more money by being more flexible.
During the day we stopped after one round for lunch, we had an hour between the two rounds. Just one member of staff and a massive queue. By the time we got served we heard that it would be 40 minutes for food, so had a drink and bag of crisps and out again. Shame again
The golf courses on the other hand are amazing. Kernow course is a parkland style, nice holes, a touch forgiving, nice setting, not too long, but really enjoyable. The Jack Nicklaus is truly one of the best in the UK. Quite long, very tight, great greens, lots of water, undulating. Great course. Downside is you come off and realise how crap at golf you are. If you play handicap golf, many congrats.
Overall the staff are really friendly, but definitely need more. The golf is brilliant. The hotel is 3 star at best, nearer 2 star in some rooms, and the carpets in the communal areas are tired. Breakfast needs to be changed round and switch cold area to hot and vice versa. More flexibility on food.
Would definitely play here again, but wouldn't stay here unless changes

Wedding weekend
Aug 2021 • Family
Came for a wedding and stayed 1 night. The rooms are quite dated could do with a refurb the beds were rock hard and have still got back pain 3 days later I visited the lodge on my first day and it was like a time warp back to the 80's with avocado bathroom suites and blush pink tiles etc also the sauna was locked the overall venue was clean and tidy and had great views the staff were very disinterested and couldn't even crack a smile they just looked fed up especially the breakfast staff on the Monday morning the rooms are very pricey for what you get and the food is adequate I do prefer a travelodge over this hotel as the food is strangely better and the rooms are more up to date and comfortable

Left feeling a little let down :-(
Aug 2021
8 golfers booked 2 nights / 3 rounds through your golf. We phoned reception a week in advance to request a room of any type for one of our party to carry out a simple, clean medical fluid transfer which needs to be carried out 4 times daily. On arrival, reception promised one of our booked rooms would be ready but then did nothing except blame "housekeeping" for not having a room available for further 2 hours. My friend had to do the medical transfer in the carpark. We were apparently the only group of golfers staying overnight so loads of other empty rooms, therefor no excuses!!.. it felt like they just couldn't be bothered.
GOLF- The greens on both courses were in the process of being tigned and sanded.
We were not advised about this or we would have changed dates. As golfers, we know that the greens maintenance is essential, but we should have been told. Lack of communication between the venue, Your Golf and us, the people paying??.
On the positive side, the pro shop, starters and course personnel were helpful with anything we needed and the courses were absolutely stunning. (apart from putting on a rugby pitch surface).
ACCOMMODATION- Rooms were adequate but the whole complex building is looking tired and in need of a revamp having patched up carpets and smelling a little musty..
The restaurant was not open and we were ferried to local pub for our evening meal in a mini-bus. The "Who'd Have Thought It Inn" treated us brilliantly and couldn't do enough for us.
I think we all agreed that we would love to play the two courses again, but would maybe choose different accommodation.

Warm welcome from all on the golf side
Jul 2021
We stayed for three nights and three rounds of golf at St Mellion as a birthday present from my wife. I cannot fault anything about the golf side of the operation. The courses were in immaculate condition, the Pro and Golf Manager were informative and helpful and the starters on both courses were helpful, accommodating and really, really welcoming. I was a bi concerned about the club being a bit stuffy but far from it - this was (from a golf point of view)

Amazing staff and lovely facilities
Jul 2021 • Couples
We visited for 2 nights. The staff were lovely and friendly and the hotel was very clean and tidy. The only down side was that the restaurant of an evening wasn’t open and some of the pool facilities were closed, however the staff were very apologetic for the inconvenience.
We also Used the spa facilities and had a hot mineral massage and it was amazing!! Georgia was so friendly and professional and made us feel so comfortable. It was such an enjoyable experience. If you’ve never had a treatment before I do highly recommend Georgia!

all staff overall though were friendly and gave very good customer service. The hotel was very nice too and would be happy to come back and stay again!
