About
Open weekly Tuesday-Sunday. Within this atmospheric building, explore the stories of its occupants from Tudor time: tax collectors, Arkwright mill workers, and even a night soil man. Nestled within the Tudor rooms, with their massive open fireplaces, wattle and daub screens and beamed ceilings, are displays on the people of Bakewell and the local people of the White and Dark Peak. 2022 Exhibition: Celebrating 70: Gems of the collection. An exhibition celebrating Queen Elizabeth ascending the throne with some of the stars from our costume collection. See our website for further information about your visit.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Interesting little place. We were asked if we wanted to Gift Aid our entrance fee & we said we couldn't. The lady's reply was "You don't have to earn much to pay IncomeTax" which was a bit patronising, to say the least! Spoilt an otherwise enjoyable hour or so.

Fascinating collection of items relating to the charming old building.
Videos and good interpretations make for an enjoyable and interesting visit for adults and there are activities for children that could make a couple of hours pass quickly

The museum provided a greta insight into the history and culture of Bakewell. The exhibitions were extensive and full of information. The children had an activity trail which kept them exploring the different rooms. Lots of fun and interesting facts. Staff were friendly and we were given an introductory talk before we started our tour around the house.

We had a very friendly welcome. The house itself is interesting, and a kind lady put a mask on when she saw we were wearing masks, then took us through its history.

There are a lot of very diverse displays, because everything was donated by local residents. It felt like there was something for everyone.

It is a steep walk up to the house but it was worth it. Definitely a good place to come in out of the rain!

What a splendid place to visit. It is surprisingly large inside with lots of exhibits and information. The short video played is very interesting about both the house and Bakewell. Not expensive given the amount of time spent in the museum. Staff are well informed about the house and its history.

Made very welcome by the staff who were a wealth of information on the House and Museum. The museum is not to be missed. Full of gems and exhibits that give a comprehensive history of the House, Bakewell and its inhabitants. Well done to all concerned.
