So much work has been carried out on this canal to make it attractive. In the 80s someone removed the plug in error and emptied the canal. It is back to it's normal depth now, though!

Great place to spend a Sunday afternoon walk with a cafe halfway between Chesterfield and Staveley. Also nice for running as it’s flat πŸ˜ƒ

Yes you can, get wrapped up take a ruck sack with a flask of tea and bottles of water and have a picnic en route. Hope this helps...thank you.

The trip is 5 miles between the lock at Lockoford lane near the Tesco store roundabout runs Sundays till October at a cost of 8.00 but runs other days on shorter timed trips Check their website Chesterfield Canal Trust

It really depends which bit of the canal you are trying to access? You could park by Arnold Clarkes if you want to access it at Tapton Lock Visitor Centre, or there is a car park by The Mill Pub in Brimington. A bit further... More
