Stourhead includes a Palladian house and world-famous landscape garden. The garden is perhaps the most beautiful and magical of all the great landscape gardens, Stourhead is an 18th-century view of an Arcadian paradise. On a plateau of high ground Stourhead house was built and became home to generations of the Hoare family.

Had never visited before and then ended up visiting twice in a week. Children absolutely loved it. So much to see and loads of little places to explore. Staff were particularly friendly and helpful - I’d say the best I have encountered at NT places.

New parking machine - UUURGH even for members - get rid. Lunch at the Spread Eagle on Sunday - over priced and to like a canteen, The house, well what a beautiful place, the room cards need jazzing up, they are rather boring and need...More

Gardens are well worth a visit in any season. Not sure about the National Trust pricing strategy which charges you more for allowing them to claim Gift Aid.

We had a very pleasant day at Stourhead. The gardens were very good even though it was a few weeks too soon, due to the prolonged cool weather this year, until the rhododendrons and camellias would be in full bloom. There was some colour, however,...More

Ample parking. A large cafe ( though some of the hot food looked a bit tired by 2pm). Massive grounds, lake and plenty to explore. The library in the house is exceptional and there are information pamphlets in each room explaining the very many portraits...More

We had visited the house many years ago and found things much changed—many more rooms open to visitors, many more paintings on display, and a huge visitor center. On one of the first sunny weekends of the year, we found it a bit crowded but...More

Stourhead gardens are beautiful and the walk round the lake is something you must do when visiting. It was a lovely spring day and after taking in the lovely views around the lake, we wanted to sit outside at the cafe before heading home. There...More

Honestly, just one of my favourite places. The walk is lovely, the scenery and buildings are my favourite. Great place to take a picnic in the summer and there’s an ice cream shop, national trust shop/plant shop and a farm shop. Also super romantic (One...More

We had an enjoyable walk around the grounds on a fresh day in March. Although there were daffodils in flower there is not as much colour in the gardens here as at some other NT gardens, the views across the lake however are lovely. We...More

Had a lovely walk around the gardens, even on a miserable Easter Monday they were stunning. The house itself was very impressive. Also popped into the pub for a pint. Will definitely visit again in the summer.
