This place is a gem. First we went around the Stourhead House and I can't complain about the information here - 3 sheets detailing different things, along with knowledgeable and helpful room guides. The Pope's cabinet is fantastic - there was a short film on...More

We travelled a fair distance to visit this and our plans was to explore The House, have a long walk in the gardens and eat before the journey home. The House is well worth the visit, the Library is magificent and the rooms that are open...More

A really nice place to visit but there is only a small window when you can take dogs into the garden. Otherwise you are expelled to the wider and wilder reaches of the estate. We got lost in the woods and when we got back...More

Stourhead was one of the most amazing gardens I had the pleasure to wander. I remember leaving, and all I could think of to describe what I saw was "magical". If you plan to go, plan for a few hours, or even a half day...More

Stourhead's landscape is so visually stunning it almost doesn't seem real. The ancestors that designed and produced this beautiful garden deserve the credit for this masterpiece but credit must go to the National Trust for looking after it. This area must take a lot of...More

This is one of the National Trusts gems. We went out os season so there were not grounds. I strongly recommend as this can be very busy in peak season. Also the paths down to the lake can be steep and it is a long...More

Unfortunately no dogs are allowed into the grounds until 4pm. I don't know why this is but there are signs at the start and around the park saying this.

Hi Claire, There are various follies in the grounds where you could shelter but nothing specific for picnics.
