Stourhead includes a Palladian house and world-famous landscape garden. The garden is perhaps the most beautiful and magical of all the great landscape gardens, Stourhead is an 18th-century view of an Arcadian paradise. On a plateau of high ground Stourhead house was built and became home to generations of the Hoare family.

Visited Stourhead at the end of last season and it is truly a magical place. For anyone who loves Jane Austen as I do, you will recognise the gardens and the temples straight away! The grounds are dominated by a beautiful lake that you can...More

The grounds of this National Trust property are beautiful - perfect for a walk on a fine day. At the moment there are lots of snowdrops out. The views across the lake are lovely. Half way round there is a gothic cafe, selling drinks and...More

Obviously the gardens are stunning but given that it was half term and that at least a quarter of the visitors today were children there was not a single attempt to provide anything for them. No woodland trail, no rope swing, adventure playground etc etc....More

Must be one of the most beautiful National Trust properties I have been to. The grounds and all the estate buildings are beautiful. Take your walking boots as there are some lovely walks which are off the beaten track. Lots of good eating places and...More

One of the best reasons to have a NT membership. Stourhead is quite expensive to get into visit if you are not a member. The house is very interesting but for me it’s the grounds & gardens that make it worth visiting. They are absolutely...More

Fabulous gardens - rather ordinary house and Harry's story is SO sad. Gets very busy and combine it with a trip to the Spreadeagle Inn - not sure if they still do the annual Fete Champetre but if they do well worth attending

A beautiful garden and lake with enjoyable walks. The house is very interesting. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us an insight to the real meaning of various paintings. The cafe was particularly good.
