Stourhead includes a Palladian house and world-famous landscape garden. The garden is perhaps the most beautiful and magical of all the great landscape gardens, Stourhead is an 18th-century view of an Arcadian paradise. On a plateau of high ground Stourhead house was built and became home to generations of the Hoare family.

Walked round the lake, first time and it was full of surprises, little grotto's, gardeners cottage, bridges, the apollo mor and more, great photo opportunity around every corner. I thought a little expensive, however I have decided to join national trust since my visit which...More

I came here with my fiancé in December with a national trust free entry voucher. Even without the voucher I would happily pay to come again. The house itself was huge and very ornate but the highlight was the gardens. The gardens surround a large...More

The lake, the gardens, the little secret places (like the almost spooky witches stone cottage in the forest, serving mulled wine, it seems like a trap, but you can't resist the warm, inviting, smell, so you give in, and it's so worth it!!) - there...More

Get outside. Yes, there's a house. And it's fine - Normal English estate stuff, and the last two times I visited they've had treasure-hunt activities for kids (spot the [something] in each room / in the paintings). The grounds with its lake are the main...More
