Was recommended to come here by staff at carrickfergus castle, otherwise I'd never have heard of it! The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, and provided free tea and coffee. There was much more to this centre than I expected.

I had no idea that Andrew Jackson has connections in Northern Ireland. The Jackson family history was interesting but for me the high light was seeing how the house would have looked in the past and it gave a good sense of what life was...More

A very interesting building, occupied from around 1750 to 1979. Its now a museum dedicated to ancestors of US President Andrew Jackson, who lived in another building nearby which is gone. I'll skip comment on him, except to say I've been to either end of...More

Andrew Jackson cottage may be a bit of a misnomer in that a home similar to this one and in this area would have been inhabited by his parents before their move to America where Andrew was born (he had to be in order to...More

The house dedicated to Andrew Jackson (his family actually lived down the street) is interesting and a nice example of life 250 years ago. But my real interest was the US Army Ranger Centre. The Rangers of WWII began here in 1942. The Centre has...More

Sean was a very good guide and had many stories. As an American it was good to get a Carrickfergus perspective.

I took a study abroad group to the Andrew Jackson Center. We were studying Irish-American history and Irish culture and music. Sean Mac Eachaidh, the center guide, had prepared so well! He'd researched our university -- knew our mascot, our "signature" walk (don't ask), and...More

We visited the Jackson homestead in October this year, having visited Andrew Jackson's home, "The Hermitage" in Nashville in September. I must say that we had an excellent experience. The guide was very friendly and extremely well informed. He had all the facts to hand...More

I live locally and pass the Cottage daily. With friends staying for the weekend we stopped off and got a guided tour, by Sean, around the wee house and also the Americal military museum. Great stories and mighty craic.

Very worthwhile. Well kept secret. Sean was a real treat and the friendliness of Irish people is so nice.
