As the remnants of the castle are right near to the town (not far from Smiths) it is worth a visit. There are good information boards located near the walls and views of the train station/towy river from one section of the wall. I would visit again when I have a bit more time to look at the information centre... More

Easy to find and not a lot left of this place but still worth a quick look and pop in to the tourist centre where there was a very friendly assistant. Walk up the tower for a lovely view and photo opportunity.

A wall and couple of towers remain so if you're there, go and see it but don't go out of your way. Nicely looked after, some interesting bits to read plus lovely views but there are so many castles to see, this one could be missed.

Ok not a lot of the castle remains BUT what's there is interesting and worth a visit, make sure you go up the steps to see the towers and go round the corner and up more steps to see the top of the Mott.

We visited here by pure chance in a recent visit to Wales. We came across the Castle walls, when looking for somewhere to have lunch. We wandered around the walls, love the direction sign telling you how far and in which direction other castles were. We didn't go inside as we had a puppy with us although the gent behind... More

The Castle overlooking the River Twyi, would have dominated the old medieval town. The remaining walls partially encircle the County Council Offices

Visited Carmarthen on a Sunday in half term week only to find the castle closed. We had asked a local about the castle only to be told - don't expect a lot, it's not much of a castle. Disappointing compared to many others and to be closed on a Sunday seems mad.

Went to the castle thinking it was the same as when Prince Charles was Ordaned but wrong, there is not a lot left. Don't go at lunch time when the schools are out as it was a bit intimidating when there where about 8 hanging around the cell area Lots of information on boards though.

Carmarthen castle has a particularly interesting history and its well worth a visit to find out how people lived over the centuries in Carmarthen and the relationship between the Welsh and English peoples of the time. Its not the most spectacular castle visually but the history is pretty amazing.
