Gustaf gives perspective to Gösta-museum
Jul 2020
When you visit Gösta, visit also the Gustaf Museum. The Paper Devil exhibition nicely opens the history and life of Mänttä, museums, Finnish industry and the Serlachiuses. The Gustaf Museum is the former headquarters of the Mänttä paper mills and its walls feature art and tell stories how the life used to be. There is also a pharmacy, where you can dive into the past e.g. by dressing old clothes :)
This summer, the museum also had an interesting exhibition, Olli and Bucklan - Life and Art, which opened the production and life of a relatively unknown two artists to me. Their production has been very diverse, e.g. from the doors of Pohjola Bank to the crown of the King of Finland and coat of arms of Finland, brands, packaging, glass art, wood art, jewelery, fashion and paintings. You can also watch the short movie about couple's life.
You do not have to catch everything on the same day because you can get here the next day with the Gösta ticket. During the summer, this museum is also open every day from 10 am to 6 pm. I highly recommend. I would think it is a nice place for kids too thanks to the pharmacy museum and multimedia show.

Thank you for your nice feedback, we really appreciate it! Olli and Bucklan really impressed everyone this summer. Serlachius Museums are open all year round. Hope to see you at Serlachius again soon! Kind regards, Suvi Rauhala Serlachius Museums

If you visit Gösta, visit this one, too
Jul 2019
These twin museums Gustaf and Göstä both offer exhibitions, and as Mänttä is such a small town, you can easily visit them both.

History and art combined
Aug 2018 • Family
The audiovisual history exhibition is interesting, and the building itself is absolutely worth a visit. There's also a great old-fashioned pharmacy and a shop that kids can play in and learn about history hands on.

In the basement you can also find an art workshop for children.

The rest of the villa is home for changing art exhibitions, and they are often very good. There's a lot more to see in here than you might first think.

The museum cafe is stylish, the small shop has a nice selection - and the service and the museum guides very friendly and knowledgeable.

A great visit any day.

Interesting view on an important element of local history and a beautiful building and also great art

The old headquarters of Serlachius mill shows how important these early wood processing plants were to the country. The patron ruled the community, enormous energy was spent on small details and there was no lack of money. The "green gold" built these empires.

History and art

The museum is run by the same foundation as the Gösta museum, which is the main attraction of and the main reason to visit the town of Mänttä. Once in town its worth visiting also the Gustaf Museum. It is more interactive than Gösta, telling the history of the building that served as the head office of the forest combine G.A. Serlachius Ltd. But it has also some exciting modern exhibitions. My favourites this summer were the Dali installations, and the Playground showing Elina Brotherus’ newest witty and exciting photographs containing layers of meanings.

the old head office of a wood pulp mill

this museum is one of two museums in Mantaa by Serlachius and both are worth a visit and a combined ticket for both is only 10 euro which is really good value (I don't think there is a single ticket anyway).
This museum is the previous head office of the company and has a mix of exhibitions about the founding of the company and also some art. I found the building itself wonderful to see with stylish atrium and even air conditioning (for a building built in 1934 in finland this is quite remarkable, even some offices built today don't have such a system). You really get a feel that the company had some money at that time to invest in a nice building and the style reminded me of the Hoover building in west london, also built in the 30's.
The presentation makes good use of modern technology and is not full of glass boxes with exhibits and cardboard labels. The guides are helpful and professional and both museums are really well run. I would visit again.

Dali!
Jun 2018 • Couples
I can recommend Dali's Gala and Brotherus' Playground exhibitions. The Paper Devil I just found boring. The building itself shows what you were able to do "in the good old days", if you had a pile of money.....

Disappointed about audio guide
Jun 2017 • Couples
What should have been interesting turned out to be disappointing. The audio guide was very confusing. Not enough factual and plain facts. Very dark and noisy environment. Did not learn a lot because the way the story was told was not straight forward.

I visited here more than one year ago and it had the same exhibitions
Sep 2016 • Friends
The museum is absolutely worth to visit. Only boring thing was that it had the same exhibitions than more than one year ago.
Go first to this museum and continue to the next Serlachius museum which is some kilometers away from here. You will get a lot of knowledge of history and art when you do it.
