As an American not used to driving with the steering wheel on the right side of the car it was a little daunting at first. Just drove slowly and enjoyed the fields and severe (150+ feet) drops.
No guardrails folks. Two way traffic, one lane road, limited pull overs, sheep in the road, mountain passes.
All of it makes for an interesting experience!
The scenery is nothing short of spectacular.

"Divert Traffic" means detour in Ireland. Only thing is, they don't always divert you to an alternative route. A sense of adventure and no directions given put me on the road over Healy Pass. What a lovely diversion it was.

A must do for cyclists. Great views on the way up and on the top. On a clear day you can see so much. And once you come down you can climb the other side!

Amazing rugged scenery with natural waterfalls and stunning view of Glanmire Lake below. A A manageable drive in my Ford Transit campervan but narrow in places for passing though I didn't meet any cars from as I think this is the way most people go over it from Glengarriff.
However, I like many others on here experienced the creepy sheep farmer who flagged me down on the road with his stick, giving me no option of passing him. Luckily I hit the Central locking before lowering the window half ways. He asked where I was from and if I was alone which completely freaked me out and the way he was trying to see what was beside me in the passenger. I lyingly told him the hubby was in the back, quickly put up the window and drove on. According to one local, he got in trouble before with the law about this kind of behaviour where he did something inappropriate but obviously hasnt deterred him. He may be a harmless lonely bachelor as reported elsewhere but could really have done without that experience in such an isolated area. His image is in google images if you Google sheep farmer Healy pass

The Healy Pass took my breath away. I can't remember ever doing a more besutiful drive. It cuts across the Beara Peninsula climbing up along a snaking winding road affording incredible views of the valley, lake and coastline below.
The road is winding but you can see everything coming as it hugs the mountainside or snakes down the valley. The only part that is blind is the very beginning and end as you reach the coast as the road has high overgrown ditches and trees that restrict visibility.
I did it from the Kerry side over towards the Eastern or Cork side of the peninsula. It's amazing. Go slow, go safe and stop at the viewpoints for pictures - keep your eyes on the road!

It is amazing route but not suitable for people with vertigo. You can make stops to do pictures. Check weather forecast before otherwise by rainy day you will miss beautiful views.

This road is a must if you are nearby. There is a nive view on the top and further there is a lake. The landscape it's quite different from Ireland visual. Try to go when it's sunny.
