We visited Whinlatter on a pleasant day at the start of June. We found the car parking and facilities in the main building to be very good, and drinks and scones in the cafe very nice, if not a little pricey. We did the Gruffallo...More

A popular centre for cyclists and walkers with various trails of differing lengths and times. We went around one of the easier trails with no difficulty subsequently enjoying tea and cake at the cafe where there is plenty of inside and outside seating. In the Centre building...More

This is another place I have been visiting all my life. I visit here more than twice a year and I can't get enough. There are various routes to take around the forest all signed but different coloured posts to follow so is good for...More

This was the second one we visited and much preferred. The red loop trails were great, hilly and fast flowing. The cafe facilities and toilets were clean and friendly staff. Again the Grufallo trail and Go ape facilities were good. A lot of little added...More

First up...this is an ideal serious mountain Biking destination. Excellent marked trails all prepared for a challenging experience. Blue red and black graded runs just like a ski resort but for MTB Plenty for the real hard core to go at, and also routes for...More

We took our 18 month old on the Gruffalo trail and he loved it, particularly the wooden Gruffalo model! The walk was quite steep but it was nice to do a long-ish walk, definitely glad we took the buggy. The cafe lunch was delicious although...More

If you've got a young family I expect you will find this an excellent place to visit. Massive (but quite pricey) car park, lots of well maintained and signposted forest trails (including the Gruffalo trail), large bike hire centre, Go Ape adventure area, Segway safaris,...More

We'll be staying in Keswick and are looking for challenging walks in the area; as we're from the US we'll not have a car, not wanting to try L side driving. Will it be difficult to find a bus or other transportation to the forest?

We had a car, but I am confident that Whinlatter will be on a bus route from Keswick centre. A taxi will take you, but would be costly as it would either have to wait or make a second trip to collect you. The beauty was the... More
