We live in the 'orange zone' near a National Park and greatly appreciate the efforts if firefighters in controlling bushfires, We also have a grandson who is just crazy about fire engines and firemen, so this was an absolute "must do" for us! The museum has good collection of real new Zealand fire appliances, fittings, uniforms and fire fighting miscellania,... More

This little museum was one of the highlights of our entire trip to New Zealand. Actually, it isn't that little. It's amazing what one man has done with his devotion and a lifetime of collecting. Even for non-fireys, this is a fantastic museum. Open to all for only a donation, but give a good one as it is a great museum with heaps of displays. The building is deceptive, we just couldn't believe how big the displays were, NZ Firefighters, International Firefighters, half a dozen working trucks. Don't miss this if you are heading down... More
