About
Donadea Castle and estate was the old home of the Aylmer family up until 1935 when the last member of the family Miss Caroline died. It is a National Heritage Area. There are many historical features including the remains of the castle and walled gardens, St. Peter’s church, an ice house and boat house. The Lime tree avenue planted in the 19th century formed the original entrance to the estate. Another feature of the park is the 9/11 Memorial, a scaled replica of the twin towers carved in limestone. The small lake is brimming with ducks, water-hens and has a beautiful display of water lilies in the summer. There is a café open weekends and during school holidays.

What’s not to like in the forest it’s lovely, shocked it has reasonable wheelchair access. The monuments for 9/11 warriors is touching but the cafe and toilets are so dirty it’s unreal. I have never seen a toilet that dirty ever, I would have thought as they attached to the cafe that they would be clean but omg never cleaned and what I saw wasn’t new. Badly needs a clean everywhere I turned was poop and dried in. There was pee all over the floor and the smell was sickening. Parking much better and £5 in was ok too

I have always and will always love this park! It’s the best place to walk on real trails through the woods, however there are also concrete walkways for others who don’t fancy walking in the mud. So much history to the entire park. Love it!!

Wasn't expecting it to quite as small of a walk that it is, the café is lovely and the lady was very friendly, I personally didn't think it was great for directions the signs inside the forest where hard to find and not great to follow...

Avoid at all costs!
This place is absolutely the epitome of a rip off!
€5 entry fee to be greeted by a smell that would only short of turn your stomach from the most disgustingly filthy unwelcoming toilets I’ve ever seen at a park.
The walkways are hideously run down, rubbish littered everywhere around the park with not a bin in sight, but the best is yet to come.
After your walk around one of the dirtiest parks in the country, you’re insulted with their notion of a Cafe??! A CAFE???? A run down shack that only accepts cash to what seems like a complete tax evasion, only offers Tea and coffee that they make with a bloody kettle infront of your €2.70 and €3.50 for basic tea and coffee, no cappuccino’s no lattes, but not accepting card is a piss take in this day and age! They use this excuse of “no signal out here for that” but their conveniently placed barriers accept tap and card payment to lure you in.
The worst park I’ve been to, absolute kip!
Avoid it!

Lovely forest for a weekend stroll. Great car parking facilitated (compared to other Coillte Woods). Toilets available in car park. €5 entry free ( you can tap a credit card).

Nice walkways - the trails are marked . Lovely memorial to the 9/11 firefighters and police officers. Plenty of bluebells about this time of year.

There’s a small shop to buy coffee with picnic tables outside.

Lovely and quiet place to spend an hour or two.

Visited the forest for the first time in a long time I need to be very disappointed you have to pay €5 to enter why I don’t know I thought forest parks belong to the people the whole park just seems very rundown unkept And dirty everywhere you look there’s rubbish footpath are falling apart in the toilet stay put in a dirty with no way to clean your hands and no paper as seems to be usual in Ireland the shop in the middle of the park closes at two or 3 o’clock so there’s no facilities to get a coffee or anything I would give it a miss I go to Castletown house instead plus you don’t have to pay into Castletown house

Nice woods but facilities are bad. Visited on New year's Eve and ladies toilets were padlocked shut. The cafe was open so you would expect the toilets to be available. There are two toilets the carpark area and they were absolutely disgusting. Full of litter including an over flowing bag of rubbish in one of them. The actual toilets were filthy and the stink from them was stomach churning. There is a €5 parking fee. Machine accepts card only. The cafe sells very basic refreshments and only accepts cash.
