At the Butterfly Farm you will be escorted by your guide who will lead you through a specially created exhibition area of landscaped gardens. This is the butterflies own lush tropical garden playground! Here you will see hundreds of rare and exotic butterflies fluttering freely around you. The guide will identify different species, point out courtship and mating displays and tell butterfly facts and stories. You can also witness the various stages of the butterfly's life cycle, from butterflies laying their eggs to caterpillars hatching, growing and forming their chrysalis. Ask your guide how to handle the butterflies and caterpillars if you dare! The tour lasts around 15 minutes and you are welcome to stay as long as you like at leisure in the gardens. There is also an extensive selection of butterfly gifts and souvenirs in the shop, or drinks available in the shady cafe. Car parking and rest rooms on site free of charge.

What a beautiful place. So many butterflies. Peter, the curator, was so informative. Brought the young children up front and spoke to them directly about conservation to keep butterflies going. Gave us info on how to find what plants to grow in our areas to encourage them to flourish in our home towns. If it rains they all hide so... More

It is definitely steamy inside the butterfly farm. And don't go if it rains (apparently the butterflies all hide in the rain). Our tour guide was hilarious which was unexpected. It was very serene. We loved it, as did our daughter. Our 14 year old son, not so much, though he is tough to please these days. Worth it if... More

Reviews on Trip Advisor can be skewed by the huge number of cruise ship passengers, so keep that in mind while planning your trip. I arrived early and thought that this attraction was closed for the season or out of business, judging by the outside, but they are indeed open for tour groups. Go ahead and visit, if it fits... We had a great experience going to the Buttefrly Farm in St. Maarten. It was not only educational, but our host made it very entertaining. The amount of butterlies that were swirling around us was enthralling. w With the trip to the Butterly Farm. and back to the ship, the price is very reasonable.

I am a butterfly lover so we booked this when we saw it was available as an excursion on our cruise. It is about an hour drive from where the cruise docks. The place is not huge but has plenty of butterflies. Very knowledgable staff that really cares about the butterflies. A short talk about the butterflies and cocoons was... More

Small but fascinating tribute to butterflies, not just in St. Martin, but everywhere. Enclosed netted area with all the plants butterflies need to flourish. A nice gentleman explained their life cycle with humor and patience, emphasizing how we can encourage butterflies in our own gardens at home. Butterflies were everywhere, landing on the visitors, much to their delight. The farm's... More

If you are expecting a big fancy facility, you will be disappointed. I appreciated a local endeavor to inform the public about butterflies and to spread the word about getting involved in one's community. And of course the amazing butterflies from around the world. Going in the morning is best I understand. Ticket is good for all of one's stay... More

My husband and I visit St Maarten often and always include a tour of the butterfly farm. One small price lets you in for your entire stay on the Island. You can take a tour or wander around on your own. Our tour guide was excellent, and we learned a lot about butterflies.

After spending multiple days on the various St. Marten beaches, we decided to take a break from the tropical sun and visit the Butterfly Farm after reading all of the good reviews about it. It is absolutely worth the time and effort. As soon as you step in to the main screened-in facility you are engulfed with beautiful butterflies flittering... More
