For me you can forget the Maya, the stone age, and even the roman artifacts. I found the number 1 place to see is actually on the lower level at the end of the exhibits. The Cathedral Treasury. Exhibit shows the cathedral as it was once decorated in gold and vivid frescos. as well as the contents of the emperors... More

Basically, I was not sure that I want to visit this museum. Artifacts of primitive era and household items from the life of Roman legionaries - these exhibits are usually quite ordinary and quickly erased from memory. However, for the benefit of the museum played two circumstances. Firstly, it is in the same area as Speyer Cathedral. Moreover, it has... More

My husband, myself, a nine year old and a one year old went to this museum. It was beautiful! We only had a short time, but we saw the relics and vestments used by priests hundreds of years ago! The monstrances on display were gorgeous! It was heartbreaking to see them on display without the Eucharist inside. I wish it... More

The Mayas have always interested me and it is an excellent exhibition, well thought out, with a lot visual aids, which makes it come alive. What impressed me was that they made is also interesting to students, not so dried out. It makes you wonder why this civilization disappeared and how did they ever manage to build the pyramids, with... More

The museum is located in an old fortress, so just seeing the interior is interesting (though not physically accessible). Signage is only in German as are handouts, but as always, docents are very helpful. Top floor is the more "modern" history - 1800's through WWI. Down in the basement you will find the archaeological dig showing the roman base of... More

The Museum der Pfalz (the Palatinate) is mildly interesting, especially the WWI exhibit of life in the trenches from the German soldiers' view. But most of the exhibits carry little in the way of English explanations. In fact I could only understand the WWI video because it is also broadcast in French. The museum is in an old building that... More

I got the notion that the museum is slightly off the attention of foreign tourists though it is worth the visit. The reason might be only the German information of the artifacts is available. You may see all the significant artifacts of the region and a great exhibition of the wine history (you will find the oldest wine bottle with... More

The special Maya exhibit brings together wonderful photographs of Macduff Everton, spectacular original pieces form Guatemala and around Europe, with a focus on the new site Uxul, whose work Nicolai Grube of U Bonn has developed. The animation videos of the site of Uxul, and its residential sectors and forest gardens gives a fresh view of the Maya landscape filled... More

You can find the original stuff that belongs to the ancient church next to the museum. You can find out how the Dome was built and there are always very nice and interesting exhibitions.

Hosts many traveling exhibits of very high quality. When planning to visit Speyer, plan a couple hours here
