Well worth a visit
Jan 2019
After visiting a recent Munter exhibition in Cologne, I was curious to find out more about this fascinating artist.

The Munter house offers insights into her every day living and relationship with fellow artists.

Definately worth a visit and easily combinable with a morning visit to the Schloss Museum.

From 22 March
Mar 2018 • Couples
Having seen the excellent exhibition in Munich of Muenter’s life and work, we paid a pilgrimage to the house in Murnau. It opens on 22 March so sadly all we could see was the outside of the attractive property. Another time?

Charming house, of great interest to art lovers

We had a special tour in English when the house was closed, with a lovely guide who explained Kandinsky's and Munter's work and lives clearly and interestingly. If going with a group, this is ideal as the house is quite small and it would have been very difficult to go round when it is open to the public. The staff are pleasant and helpful.

Lovely place with big history

We loved the house and the way they present the life Mutter and Kandinsky lived there early 20th century. We were lucky to be there on a beautiful spring day; showing off the light, that must have inspired the artists to produce their phenomenal work there.

Another Art Lovers Delight
Aug 2015 • Couples
Visiting the house where Kandinsky and Muenter lived and worked is like walking into their artwork itself. Images of the house appear in their work and parts of the house and its furnishings have been painted by the artists. It is a small house and often crowded with visitors but still well worth seeing. The garden is picturesque. One can imagine how Kandinsky and Muenter had unobstructed views to the Alps before Murnau expanded and grew into their home's line of sight. (Local residents, understandably, seek to dissuade car parking near the house but it can be done legally.)

Fascinating building with great works of art.

The house features in so many of Munter and Kandinskys paintings, so it was fascinating to visit and see the house where they have lived and worked. The house is fitted with many of the items that are in the paintings. There is a great collection of paintings in the building (I assume originals). For 3 Euros each well worth a visit. We got the train from Munich on a bayern ticket and walked to the museum through the wonderful old town. Recommended . an easy day trip on the train from Munich

Very nice to see the house where Kandinsky lived
Nov 2014 • Couples
This is a small house in a neat village. Particular in Summer it must be a delight to visit. It is exciting to walk on the stairs that Gabriele Munter and Wassily Kandinsky took as well. In the little shop on the ground floor you can see a book with photos from the period when the artists lived there. Definitely worthwhile when you are interested in the Blaue Reiter art. And when you go there, make a detour to the Franz Marc museum in Kochel, 20 minutes from Murnau.

Too crowded, staff too bossy.

I was actually let in to look around this house 20 years ago when it was still in private ownership. As a musuem, there is not much to see as it is just a little summer cottage. There were too many people - all women, I noticed - that you had to push and wait just to get into a normal room in a German summer cottage. It was nice to daydream about what it would have been like at the time of Der Blaue Reiter though.

This museum was the main reason for our trip to Bavaria

To be in this charming house and garden where Kandinsky and Munter and there friends was eerily wonderful. Many interesting photographs and furniture hand painted by Kandinsky are on display. The rooms look the same as they did 100 years ago.
