The line runs from Wernigerode and is a metre gauge track which runs 365 days a year and is wholly steam with colossal 2-10-2 locomotives. The line rises some 1000 metres to the top of the Brocken. There is a junction at Drei Annen Hohne where a line goes through the country to Nordhausen. Services to the Brocken are frequent... More

Our guide books lacked vital information which could have been useful in planning our trip. Rely on this being a day trip and expensive, costing 82 Euros for two adults return. The signs for the Park and Ride ( or walk ) are not clear and we were lucky to meet a kindly German couple who showed us the way.... More

This is a lovely nostalgic journey up the Brocken mountain. We paid 41euro each for the journey which is expensive but the trip takes over 1hr up & 1hr back. We enjoyed it very much. A couple of young ladies came along selling miniature bottles of schnaps for 2.50euro. They tasted great but you can buy them for 1euro in... More

Great way to get to the top of the Brocken. Enjoyed the trip there and back. Lots of different scenery to look at. Train enthusiasts taking pictures of the train at the railway crossings. Very cold and windy at the top but time for a bite in the cafe, build a snowman and throw some snowballs. The carriages were not... More

Well worth going to top of Brocken. Trained up in freezing sleet and dense fog. Icy so take good boots. Excellent experience.

This was our second trip up to the Brocken on the steam train. The first was 2 years ago on a special Christmas train that had train fanatics wetting their pants. That was a very enjoyable day. We (2adults & 2kids) returned with my mum so she could experience it. We went on a bitterly cold January day. Catching the... More

Took the steam train form Wernigerode to Brocken to see snow on Christmas Day and snow we got. The town of Wenigerode was a beautiful little wish we had a few days to explore there. The steam train was great there were 170klms of train lines were the steam trains runs. Would be good in summer or winter. A deffinate... More

A beautiful trip in narrow-gauge railroad with a steam locomotive. In two hours your travel from Wernigerode on the Brocken. You leave the historic Wernigerode into the forest of the Nationalpark Harz. At 1000 m above sea level the train leaves the timberline and you can enjoy the fantastic visibility on the North German lowlands and the Harz. On the... More

A trip via steam train? Who can resist? The trip up is lovely very scenic and steep climbs for the train. We went in Dec in the hope of snow. We got ice, and more ice. This made it impossible to walk or go anywhere. While out of winter this is a great day out check in advance as for... More
