We were in Oberwesel over Christmas and on Christmas eve the town shuts down for a week. With lots of time on our hands we decided to do the defensive wall walk and look at all of the towers; it was very nice, cool views and an easy walk with a lot of history.

This is a nice wall that goes most of the way around Oberwesel. It does not have a covered walkway as Rothenburg does. It is a walkway atop the wall. There are several towers.

The walk along the Oberwesel Wall was interesting and enjoyable. It parallels the Rhein River and offers excellent views. It was also an easy walk that allowed you to get an overview of the town. I recommend it.

We took a lunch picnic up on the wall, and went back one night for an incredible view of the sunset and the Rhine. If you are traveling through the area by train it is a nice place to stop and stretch your feet. We will definitely remember this place on our next euro trip.

Our last full day in Oberwesel we decided to walk from the castle around the city. We walked the entire length of the wall. would love to have seen the city when the wall was still completely intact.

These were fun, but most of it is unavailable to explore. Worth going though but it doesn't take that long to see it.

Extremely cool walk through. With towers all over town, the city itself is a historical walk. The towers along the trail on the western side of the city are really cool.

We spent a couple of hours exploring this charming town on the Rhine and really enjoyed it. Walking around the fortifications was a good way to get different views of Oberwesel and imagine life in past times.

Definitely worth a venture! We had a great time driving around, looking at the fortifications. We took a river boat cruise that was FABULOUS!!!!!! This is one of those towns that you go to, venture around, have a great time and you've conquered it, no need to venture back. It's comparable to other little historic towns, maybe a wee smaller.... We stopped in Oberwesel for a coffee but could not find anything open. Disappointing so we walked along the town fortifications back to our car. I love the way that the town has just built itself around the walls. In some places, houses abut against the walls and in other places, there is narrow roadway in between. Numerous tunnels feed...
