A spur, downhill a steep slope to the Danube River
Jul 2013 • Couples
100 Metres high rock escarpments. In this area there are Celtic square hills and a Roman Fort to be find, during excavations many items were found dating back to the stone age and bronze age. On the Frauenberg the Wolfgang rampart(most likely of Celtic origin, curently 11 meters high), which was raised around year 1000 as protection against an advancing Hungary, the Romans built here a port on the western edge, this wall is huge: 12 meters high and more than 220 meters long. An impressive Celtic bronze figure "little Weltenburger Bull" was found in the immediate vicinity of the temple: it is on display at the Celtic Museum in Kelheim.
