late Gothic Leprosy church
Aug 2011 • Couples
The key can be obtained at a nearby house. This late Gothic Leprosy church was built in 1397. The rich citizen Michel am Steg founded the Church Foundation, as he was the main benefactor he was buried in the Church (East choir wall). Since 1398 the church was a branch Church of Mehring. The present shape was built by by master Hans Wechelsperger (painted coat of arms over the year 1477 in the choir arch). The church was consecrated to the Holy Cross, St Alban and St Christopher. Nave with 3 beech, a subdued altar space and lierne Vault. In 1953 during restauration late Gothic- renaiscance- and Baroque frescoes were discovered, three baroque altars had been maintained. The lepers could attend the prayer service accessible by a door (now bricket up) which led from the lepers home to the matroneum.
