We have seen the interior before the renovation and it is interesting, if not spectacular. The exterior is interesting for those who understand the detailed development of styles. For those unfamiliar with stylistic developments, it is probably indistinguishable from most of the other churches in town. Some reviewers raved about the church for its view. The church does not own... More

St. Michael's Cathedral is large and impressive. There is one disappointment. A part of the ceiling in the main church has fallen and you can not enter any longer. This is too bad because the tomb of St. Otto can not be seen. However the grounds are beautiful and there is an amazing beer museum. The property is a former... More

Elegant look from outside and also inside the cathedral. Located on the hill. It is landmark of the city. Do not miss when you are there.

Best view in town! It's a bit of a walk up but the view is worth it. Construction was going on so photo opportunities weren't the best from front of the building. There is a beer museum but they were closed when we went--kind of a bummer since we hiked up there to visit it. Take the stairs on the... More

Must be part of your "must see" when in Bamberg. You should spend enough time in there to notice all the details. Imagine, this building is nearly 1000 years old.

St Michael's Church and monastry overlooked the hotel at which we were staying and so became a must visit. We took the 109 bus from the centre of Bamberg right to the entrance and it was a little disappointing that the building was closed. Evenso the outside was amazing and the grounds were beautiful. The views across Bamberg and the... More

The old Church of St Michael's is situated up on a hill and is surrounded by medieval buildings. The church dates back to the 1400's There is a short walk up a rather steep cobblestone road to reach the church but it is well worth the walk, there is a beautiful rose garden with a view of the city of... All about the gardens and views outside (it's closed for renovation at the moment). Absolutely worth the walk up to it (and back down).

The church itself is magnificent, especially for people that are interested in architecture. In the church gardens is a beer museum. Entrance was around 3-5 euro. I would recommend it. If you want to stay away from tourists but still admire the Michael's church - look for a path that says: to the cafe... or something similar. It is a... More

There is a lot to say about this church however my pick is the architecture of the 3 entrances. Of course there is lots to impress inside.
