Visited with four friends, the Citadel stands very well and is worth a visit but there is a lack of information in English. The day we went we were unable to visit the enclosure where the executions had taken place as it had limited opening...More

Vast ancient fort, now a UNESCO Heritage site. There is an execution wall within a section of the moat, which was chilling to visit

Interesting old fortress last used as a military barracks by the Germans. In the rear moat is a French National memorial to all those shot by the Gestapo. A very moving place.

We visited Arras in April 2017, so much to see we only managed a quick visit to the Citadel but glad we did, it is located next to the First World War Arras Memorial so we combined the two.

As we were nearby we stoped off. A typical Vauban structure but not much more to see, certainly not worth a special visit.

Designed by Vauban in the seventeenth century this is an important visit to make, but, be prepared to be emotionally moved by the French Resistance Execution Area at the rear. Having spent three days on the Somme Battlefields, it reminded us that leaders seem to...More

Hi, looked on a motoring website which says that the Citadel is approximately 2.6 km / 1.6 miles by car from Arras city centre. You could walk, the distance would be less as you can walk in a more direct route rather than... More
