This was my first time paddle boarding experience and the Orb was a good place to start. There were three different types of board - I had a beginner's board, which was very stable, whereas the two had done it before had a smaller board. The things I hadn't expected was the amount of wild life you see. The water was clear and you could see the fish swimming, there were plenty of dragonflies and a huge variety of water insects. It was lovely calming experience. It took us about 25 minutes to paddle under three bridges before turning back. The staff were very friendly and spoke English as well as French. It was hot work, as it was an August afternoon and I was wearing a life jacket over my swim suit - make sure you take lots of sun tan lotion. Smile Kayak is just at the end of the restaurant in the Jardin de la Plantade, so you can combine it with a meal or drinks.

I took my 6yr and 8yr old out on a kayak. They totally loved it, especially spotting the large fish swimming under the boat. We stopped for a spot of swimming as the water was totally calm with no current and very safe. Adventure was topped off when we saw a snake basking in the sun on a rock on the way back up the river.

Having been warned that Smile Kayak may not be open due to the low water level of the River Orb, we were pleased to find that that advice was incorrect. Determined to try paddle boarding for the first time in our lives, we somehow ended up hiring a two-person kayak instead. It was fun. For a while. We seemed to have been given a choice (the young man in charge spoke little/no English, and we were having a bad day with remembering our French lessons from all those years ago) of heading down under the bridges, or up the other way (which looked to us like a dead-end). 20 euros for one hour's kayakking seemed okay, but we made it to the last bridge and back in 30 minutes so decided to call it a day. Later we noticed other kayakkers walking over the dry weir (our "dead end") with their boats having come, presumably, from a longer (more interesting?) stretch of waterway. Maybe we should have selected that route instead.

Hello sosssij, thank you for your message. You were unlucky because you came the only days when the dam was being repaired... And, indeed, you have noticed that young French people do not speak Good English ;) You still had a good time kayaking in Béziers and that's the most important thing. Looking forward to seeing you soon, the Smile kayak team.

Smile can be found at the end of a row of bars and restaurants in a small shack. There is plenty of parking and the location is idyllic, near an old mill on the Orb. We were a party of 4 adults and 5 kids (10-14 yrs) and we chose to Kayak down the Orb, past the cathedral. We were looked after really well by Eric. It was my first time kayaking and he was very patient with me. Our time started once we were in the water, not all the time taken to get us all into the water which was a pleasant surprise. The children were also offered the chance to try paddle boards as well, which they really enjoyed. We were there over 2 hours for just 15 Euros each. Béziers is a lovely place to visit and we would definitely recommend Smile Kayak.

Fun but tiring.16..14 and 10 plus 2 adults. Reasonable price 3 paddle boards and a double kayak was 75€..overcharged at first but when pointed out were refunded no probs. 2 choices of direction up or down river.we had 2 hours so went down first towards city then back and up .have to get out at weir and lift kayak over but was dry so ok. Very tranquil.. lots of dragonflies ..coming back harder work as on time limit and had wind against us. Life jackets bit smelly but overall very good!
