Amazing feat of engineering!
Oct 2021
WE spent a pleasant afternoon going through the 9 (now 7) locks at Fonseranes. The lock leading up to this series of locks was a water level difference of 21-23 feet. Amazing. Then the 7 locks followed one after another for the next hour. Truly wonderful to experience.

Interesting Historical Site
Aug 2020 • Couples
We have visited here a few times, it has changed a great deal over the last 10 years.

From the car park it is a bit of a walk up to the canal, but it is worth it.

It is interesting seeing the locks all work together, and it’s very good place for people watching.

The history of the locks is fascinating and the film is well worth seeing.

Boating meets Great Engineering!
Apr 2019
We climbed the nine Locks of Fonseranes on our Le Boat Barging trip that started in Port Cassafieres. The engineering of the day is truly impressive and the height difference between the top and the bottom especially evident when you are in the boat! From a boating point of view they are not very difficult to maneuver, although the watching crowds do add a little pressure when parking a big boat! With several boats loaded at the same time, the assent took around 40-45 minutes but I would assume this could be slower in peak season. If you plan to use the locks on a barge trip remember to confirm the time for ascending and descending as there are specific time slots for each and arriving out of sequence could mean a long wait.

Quite the Spectacle
Sep 2019
The nine Locks of Fonseranes are mesmerizing to watch. We didn't bother taking the one hour tourist ride through the locks since we were about to embark on the Canal du Midi and would be going through plenty of locks later. The area surrounding these locks is really pretty in its park like setting with plenty of parking and lots of green space with clean facilities. It's definitely worth a look and if you are not fortunate to be experiencing the Canal on its own then spring for this fun boat ride through the nine locks. There will be lots of folks talking your picture as you go through this adventure.

Pleasant walk and interesting engineering
Sep 2019
Definitely worth a walk to the nine locks especially on a nice day, its a couple of miles each way from Braziers I believe so its a reasonable round trip, you can take in the old bridge on way and aqueduct the way back

Amazing engineering feat

Fabulous flight of locks above Beziers. Not for the feint hearted in a large rental boat. Worth visiting and pleasure boats available. Nice if expensive bar at top with great views.

Canal du Mudi
Sep 2019 • Couples
Having spent a week sailing on the Canal du Midi and going through many locks we were interested to see the 9 ecluses, where there are 9 locks in a row dropping 13 m in 300m. The area is nicely landscaped and a pleasant area to walk. For 3€ you can watch the story of Paul Riquet and his amazing engineering feat in surround cinema. It is a reasonable walk from the centre of town.
