This review is about the K3 Submarine Pens and not the submarine museum. At the time of our visit there was only one English speaking tour per day. However, they did lay on a special tour for our cuise ship. The tour was only about...More

Perfect way to spend a couple of hours if you like submarines. Don't be confused though. If you are expecting to learn all about German U Boats you will be very disappointed as the only real reference is a slide show and the pens themselves....More

Seriously though, the base is a unique building. U-boat pens for 30 submarines. For anyone that likes military history it's well worth visiting. You can go on a French sub (permanent dry dock), and the museum in the base is really interesting as well.

We visited the WW2 exhibition and submarine at K3. A lot of the exhibits are in French although there is an English language audio guide for the submarine. Overall it's worth visiting but be prepared to pay a little bit more than you expected!

My family and I had a great time at the submarine base! Everything was very easy to do and understand. The headsets in our language were great!

The highlight is the submarine whose cramped conditions, are a real eye opener . The film before is possibly style over substance but still quite enjoyable. The local cafe opposite the museum does a nice lager, coffee. Definitely worth an afternoon visit. We didn't book...More

This visit was combined with a visit to the Eric Tabarly museum on the same site, it comprises of film and static displays of the wartime history of Lorient, a very good sound/film display inside the submarine pen itself and then a tour inside the...More

Students get in discounted so remember your student cards! You start with a museum depicting the facts and story of the submarines in general and of the area including WW2 and nuclear etc. You watch a couple of videos and one on a huge (a...More

Despite previous reviews about booking, my son and I turned up and managed to arrange a K3 tour for an hour after arrival, then the submarine museum straight after that. The guided tour was worth it, lots of interesting facts not only about the pens,...More

This is a sixties French sub. Not a german, but still interesting. St Nazaire is now a prosperous area due to boing and other large internationals being based there.

We are planning to visit Flore Submarine base mid-May 2016. Will there be English speaking tours at that time? If not, is there a self-guided audio tour in English? When should we buy tickets?

There is an excellent audio guide in English which is clever enough to know when you have moved into each new room. I think tickets are available to buy on line but are easily bought from the ticket office where one of the... More
Plan on visiting in mid August 2015. Is it true that the Lorient tours of the pens are only open on Sunday? and only in French language? What pens will be open for tours? What are the daily hours of operation in August? Can advance tour tickets be purchased? if so how?

We visited on Friday April 3rd having read the website first. Now we know we misunderstood the info on the website. We were advised by the receptionist in the office next to the submarine that there are some tours but they... More
We are visiting Lorient on 1st May - May Day- and want to visit the U Boat pens (not the submarine, done those!), there appears to be very little information as to access either with or without a guide and at what times. I would prefer a guide, an English only tour would be preferable but not essential. Does anyone have up to date information that will answer my questions?!!

It's very hit and miss. We went from a cruise ship so they were prepared with English guided tours, but I've read other reviews that say there doesn't seem to be a set timetable of tours, or of times of opening. The only... More
