Just back from a wonderful visit to the top of the world....well, the area! The téléphérique is a bit old and run down but it’s worth the walks at the top that go off in all directions. There are plenty of walks of varying physical difficulty. Drive past the chair lifts to find the entrance and it’s a short steep walk to the pay desk. It goes about every 20 minutes.

Bought ticket duo so took cable car up -quick climb amidst the hoards of folk to get to top and then we set off to walk the ridge back to the funicular at just past le Capuchin- we did not understand that we did not need to climb the capuchin peak so got an extra up in at the end of a stunningly beautiful walk ! Took a good 4-5 hours and then we still needed to walk back to retrieve the car - still would highly recommend the walk .There were bits you did need a wee bit of a head for heights and I was glad we had a good OS map. Crowds thinned out as soon as you were away from the top of mont sandy

Nobody told us about the flies so I thought I had better tell you. We went up today on the cable car, great views, a sunny day. Arrived at the top and had to walk to the summit through this biblical plague of little flies, like sheep flies. They don't bite but they get everywhere. People were holding clothes or just their hands over their mouths and noses. I don't know if this is unique to July or even this year, but be warned it's not nice and it makes you want to head up and back down again as quickly as possible. Views are fantastic though.

A lovely sunny day in August we parked on the side of the road half a mile from the cable car station, walked there, bought 'aller et retour' tickets and had a lovely couple of hours at the top of the highest mountain in the massif central. Fries and a beer in the cafe at the top too!!

Today we climbed this beautiful mountain and it was well worth it! The views were breathtaking and the air so fresh. It was very busy but not so busy that you felt you were always near people. Take a picnic with you to eat at the top and allow plenty of time as it is quite a climb. The descent was very difficult for me, as it was all stones and rocks and was very steep. I wish I had opted to climb up and get the cable car down but once you are up there, you can't do this, as ticket have to be purchased at the bottom. Beautiful place to visit.
