Lovely to wander round the small streets of Sarlat sampling the local delicacies. Wide variety of choice.

Wonderful choice of food to eat, food to buy, bars and restaurants of every size and price. Get there early but wander, explore and sample and sip to your heart's delight. Stop for a while and be there at the close - just to watch the entertaining chaos as everybody wants to close up and escape to their own home and... More

Our last day in Sarlat was Market Day and it had been recommended not to miss. Despite the rainy weather, we forged on and we're amazed at the variety of food and other items for sale. Of course, there were some imported items, but most was good regional foods, homemade meals to go, fresh meats, poultry, cheeses, produce, honey, jams,... More

We visited Sarlat Market in April on a beautiful sunny day. Having visited in August the previous year, we found visiting in April more relaxing as not quite so busy or hot. Plenty of bargains to be had and well worth a visit.

I love Sarlat, a beautiful medieval town in the Dordogne. You can't help but look up at the amazing architecture and lovely winding streets, great restaurants and fantastic ambiance.

We have visited many French markets over the years and this is one of the liveliest. All the local duck and goose products were well represented. We also found great fruits and vegetables especially strawberries and asparagus. The fish mongers were great. very large selections of fish and shellfish were available. The cheese sellers were very good as well offering... More

We were amazed by the huge variety of stalls and how widespread the market was - every mainstreet and every little side street were packed with stalls selling clothing, crafts, jewellery, bags, specialty food, sausages, fish, fruit and vegetables, with hardly any repetition of products. Our only disappointment was we felt there weren't enough food stalls and they weren't grouped... More

We went to the market in Perigueux a few days prior to Sarlat and felt there was no comparison. Sarlat benefits from a lovely setting and variety of stalls, but lacked the charm of Perigueux. Sarlat was also a lot more expensive. Sarlat is worth a visit, but we found the market to be unspectacular.

The market simply fills this beautiful historic town. Quite a lot of stores sell handicraft with characteristics from this region. Many nice fresh products sold directly by the farmers. It is very pleasure just to walk and enjoy the ambience.
