Spectacular tranquility

Borutta monastery is located at the top of a hill, and offers spectacular views across the plains from above the nearby town. Like most attractions in Sardinia, it is closed from lunch time until 3PM, so timing of your visit is important.
Tickets are purchased in the gift shop/café in the corner of the huge car park. Once Inside, the tranquillity is apparent, and the high walls (striped with limestone and basalt masonry), offer a cool and quiet space. To the rear, you will access the beautiful gardens via the administrative area (there are also very good quality toilets).
To the rear on the other side, there is a small nuraghe, vegetable garden, and superb views.
After the tour, the small café offers a shady respite with a few outside tables sheltered from the heat of the sun, and some surprisingly good snacks.

Beautiful church, monastery and museum that you can visit by guided tour. They weren't super organized or up-front informative and we thought we'd just self guide after we bought our tickets (5 Euro per person). But eventually a nice lady met up with us at the church and gave us a very good all around tour in English. There is also a small nuraghe out back behind the church and a nice panorama view. The monastery was only build in 1955 on the ruins of the former but has been done exceptionally well - the cloisters are lovely. The museum is informative and well signposted in Italian and English. Highly recommended - allow 1 - 2 hours for tour and photos.

A wonderful monastery and a beautiful church: you have not the North West of Sardinia if you have not been there
