not really impressive
Jun 2021
the Cathedral of Volterra, the Baptisterium and the Museum are not covered by the Volterra card, but ask for a separate ticket (7 Euro p.p.). the baptisterium has a statue inside, but all together did not really impress us. looking it from outside (for free) would have been enough.

Normal baptistery, nothing especial
Aug 2019 • Family
Baptistery is located close to the Duomo (cathedral) in the old town of Volterra, a medieval town in Tuscany Region, in the center of Italy. The old town is wonderful, streets, buildings, main square, etruscan remains, but this baptistery (and the cathedral) are only nice. Really I expected more, because the old town is so beautiful. If you walk and see them (baptistery and cathedral) ok, of not I think that it is not necessary a visit, better other buildings.

An Inner Sanctum Of Tranquility
Jun 2019 • Couples
The 14th century Baptistry of St. John is part of the Duomo complex in a separate building and, though small in comparison to the cathedral, it contains awe inspiring art detailing the life of John the Baptist much of which dates from the 15th century. Magnificent art covers every inch of the walls and sculptures adorn the nooks, all accomplished by the most famous artists of the day, Donatelli, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Jacopo della Quercia and others. A worthy place to sit, marvel and meditate.

Hidden between streets. I like it as it reminds me Sienna.
Small and saw that only from outside but really nice.

small baptistry
Jun 2019 • Friends
not much to see inside but still worth popping your head into it. please note that some of the pictures on trip adviser are of the baptistery in Pisa. Not quite on the same scale of that!

A humble building but when you walk in you are impressed by the spaciousness of this baptistery. Beautiful and solemn.

Only saw from the outside

We saw the Baptistery while wandering through Volterra but weren't able to go inside. The exterior was interesting, though.

Not much in here but it is free to enjoy

A very old building. Old marble sculptured font and also an Etruscan bowl. A painting ( did the audio tour but it didn’t tell you anything about the altar or the beautiful painting) . You can sit in there. It was busy but can imagine it would be very peaceful and restful on a quieter day

Lovely 13th century Baptistery of San Giovanni across from the Duomo in the centre of the city. Lovely painting of the Virgin although damaged during WW2. Very pleasant hill town

Small but beautiful baptistery in Volterra. It was a warm day and a nice, cool place to sit and take in the beautiful room.
