Buy a day pass for the ferry and hit all the spots around the lake. Don’t miss the magnificent Palazzo and gardens at Insola Bella, the funky little wine bars and dining places in the alleys of Insola Pescatori, the cable car and chairlift up...More

Stayed in Stresa to explore this lake by boat The picturesque fishing villages on Lake Maggiore are a sight to see. Clusters of rainbow-coloured buildings pepper the shoreline giving each village its own unique personality. Plenty of photo opportunities with the stunning scenery.

I would go to Stresa which is a small resort town of 5.000 inhabitants with everything on it and good enough for Hemingway.

I went in late September and only needed a very light coat. If you prefer it warm I'd go in June/July.
