Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A beautiful studio villa built by the artist in beautiful Santa Maria del Sacro Monte. There is a collection of objects gathered from around the world reminiscent of a small scale John Soanes house. The most interesting aspects are the experiments he built to test some of his designs and the highlight is the studio space itself with a wax cast of two of the doors he created for the Duomo in Milan. If you’re taking a hike up to see the chapels of Sacro Monte, make some time to visit here. Well worth it!! (Check opening times, which are very limited)

What an amazing home this must have been. Built of the side of the mountain with incredible views, inside this casa is full of Pogliaghi's lifetime of collecting. The garden is also festooned with interesting pieces. Interesting place and worth a visit

Most of the people who walk up Sacro Monte don't even realize the existence of this small museum on the left side of the path.
The Villa hosts a very dense and eclectic collection that spans from Egyptian and Roman artifacts to Chinese vases and Javanese leather muppets, displayed along with the artist's own work. As his masterpiece is the main portal of the Duomo di Milano, a stunning 1:1 study copy occupies the largest room.

I was Wow'd by Lodovico Pogliaghi's determination to create a truly unique showcase of his antiquities that he assembled in his lifetime working throughout Northern Italy. It is reminiscent for me of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. I spent nearly an hour inside marveling at the collections in each awe-inspiring unique room. The grounds are a treasure trove too. If you like antiquities and want to see design out-of-the-ordinary in such a classic timely fashion, then do not hesitate to visit the Casa Museo Lodovico Pogliaghi. Would I return? Yes of course. Would I recommend it to others? Yes of course.

Have you ever visited a museum that includes, among other, Roman statues, Egyptian sarcophagi, Chinese vases, gilded ceilings, alabaster windows and the original model of a magnificent Gothic Cathedral (the Duomo of Milan, specifically) ...? Pogliaghi house museum is all this and also a wonderful art nouveau villa with a splendid view on the sorrounding lakes that, on clear days, reaches Milan. A"must" if you're in Varese.

i stumbled upon this by accident. I had walked past this museum for years without knowing anything about the amazing person who built the extremely original house, collected random articles such as ancient Egyptian coffins, Greek statues and Ming vases and sculpted the bronze doors of the Milan Duomo. The official world is "eclectic" I think but my kids would admiringly call it "really random". You should begin by walking up past the chapels of Sacro Monte (a UNESCO heritage site). Having so many interesting articles in a relatively contained, unique environment makes it an experience you won't forget.
