Historic fountain

This was a beautiful fountain with a difference. Built in 1474 and located at the end of the aquaduct, it provides cool, fresh drinking water for the locals.

Cold, clear, clean running water - thanks to the Romans!

This old fontana is at the end of the Roman Aquaduct that is such a graceful and photogenic entrance to the grand Piazza in Sulmona town. Be sure to carry a water bottle and fill it here for refreshment on a hot summers day!

Small fountain by the roadside - might be historic but not spectacular....
Jun 2016 • Couples
We visited Pulmona for a day and noticed this fountain at the roadside. It looks ornate and sits at the end of the quaduct. However although the fountain is historic and pretty it's setting and the fact its sat almost as street furniture doesn't suggest it is anything special. Shame as with some good signage and a better setting this could be far more impressive.

LOCATED AT THE SHORTER END OF THE AQUEDUCT

Fontana del Vecchio, built 1474. Some say the fountain depicts Solimo, the founder of Sulmona. The fountain has detail of a bearded man between two roses, with the inscription "Vecchio", which gives the fountain its name. It is located at the shorter end of the aqueduct, in Piazza Garibaldi.
