Open space, interesting architecture.
Sep 2020
A curious mix of buildings with lots of open space, reminiscent of Siena or Bologna. A fun place for a 'passegiata'.
Currently the town has a compulsory mask policy, which is uncomfortable but there you go.

It is safe, friendly and welcoming!! Great shops, places to eat. Mercato (or Market day) is on Wednesday and Saturday mornings - must do. If you have limited time go on one of these two mornings.

Take time to enjoy and relax in Sulmona
Oct 2019
This is an easy going Italian town, lots to see, good food, friendly locals, restful B&B's and not crowed. It's a place where you can get the true feel of a Italian town full of history. Great day trips to county towns nearby. Best to stay a few days and enjoy!

Gorgeous hidden gem of Italy
Jul 2019 • Family
Sulmona and the Abruzzo region is gorgeous. Definitely an area that must be visited. We had been told that it would be our favorite area we saw on our trip of southern and central Italy and that was not a lie. The village has such charm and truly gives you an authentic experience of Italy outside of the hustle and bustle of tourist places like atoms, Amalfi, Tuscany etc. You can see mountains from wherever you stand and the old charm and character is everywhere. Like other Italian cities it has lots of old architecture but it differs in that it’s all unique whereas in Siena for example you tend to see the same color and style building Sulmona has eclectic beauty in the differences of buildings and churches. The food and wine was delicious and the surrounding region offers national parks for hiking and other wonderful historic castles and such for touring. I recommend at least 2-3 days here.

The historic town is densely packed with churches and the medieval hospital
Apr 2019 • Couples
The historic centre of Sulmona is small, and easily seen in a few hours. However, nearly all on the main street, there are many churches worth seeing (and they are open!), the Napoli gate and the medieval hospital with a great façade. Furthermore, there is the medieval aquaduct, great views of the mountains from the piazza Garibaldi, and a portal of a church that was mostly destroyed. The archaeological museum and the room with local costumes are in the medieval hospital. In the Chiara monastery there is a modern art museum and one of religious art (both are on the same entry ticket). Finally, there is a cathedral with its early medieval crypt.

Nice city 60 km near Pescara, souvenir shops everywhere, arhitecture, but no restaurant to eat. Only a pizzeria without tables, closed at lunch time. So, take with you somethig to eat in your bag!

Nice historic town

Famous for being the birthplace of Ovid, the roman poet. Sulmona is also famous for its confetti, or sugar coated almonds, and its historical city center with some historic buildings including, churches, palaces and fountains.

Lovely place, very tranquil
Aug 2018 • Couples
We spent a few hours wandering in the peaceful town of Sulmona, brightened up by the famous confetti shops - I didn't realise how many there would be! Enjoyed having a coffee overlooking the main piazza with its famous acqueduct. Definitely a place to relax, unwind and watch the world go by.

Lovely slice of Abruzzo
Aug 2018 • Couples
Sulmona like all of this region is steeped in history. Getting past all the walls, portas, and churches the town has a wonderful, fairly lively family feel. As advertised people here are very warm and helpful. This is a very provincial area surrounded by extraordinary mountains. Spectacular doesn’t exactly describe the Parco Nazionale that absorbs the region.

Very nice but needs more upkeep
Aug 2018 • Family
The aquaduct is amazing and has surprisingly delicious water but the central square fountain could use more upkeep.
