The fortress is named after the Spanish cardinal Albornoz - initiator of the construction. It was built in 1363-1367 year as the residence of the Pope. These were the years of the return of the popes in Italy after the so-called "Avignon captivity", when the...More

On our first trip to Spoleto, we weren't in seeing "another castle", but decided to take a look this trip. We were pleasantly surprised at the architecture and exhibits there. We took the elevator up but walked down which took us along a street lined...More

La Rocca is the historic fortress in Spoleto. You must add this to your list when touring the town if you want to get the history and backround of the area.

Worth a visit. Our visit was especially fun because there was an archery competition going on. Hundreds of competitors, all in period costume. Fun to watch. Castle was not crowded in spite of the competition!

A must if you got to Spoleto and a really lovely experience of what was once used as a prison after the Borgias used it. Really interesting.

Superbly renovated fortress on numerous levels with much to see and much to do. We easily spent an hour and a half here. Slightly higher entrance fee but who cares. It is an absolute must do if you're in the area.

Well- preserved, and interesting with amazing views over Spoleto and the surrounding countryside. We could buy a ticket which gave entrance to La Rocca and several other museums and places of interest, so it was good value.

I could've found a lot of other things to spend $7.50 on. It was filled with big empty rooms with very little artwork. The best part of going to La Rocca was the escalator. Nice view.
