The views!
Sep 2020 • Couples
Like many hill towns in Umbria, the highest point is there Rocco and the views are a must see if you're passing through!

Hard To Miss
May 2019
You can't miss this imposing fortress built in the 14th century as it towers over the city and valley below. It can be accessed after a relatively strenuous climb or take the easy route via escalator located behind the Duomo.

Take the lengthy escalators up the mountain, then the elevators to the top. I ran the steps... I'm decently fit and it winded me! I think it was 7 euro to enter, the view from top is why you go here. Looking out over the town of Spoleto and behind to a historic aqueduct, both are great views. The castle/prison/defensive fort is intimidating.

Many of the Umbrian Roccas have been destroyed, this one is intact. The museum is very interesting and worth several hours to enjoy. The views over Spoleto are captivating.

Some gorgeous fresco remains in a building which has seen many lives. The museum is well presented, easy to navigate and in a spectacular location.

Super place to visit a must see. If walking up steep hills is an issue use the escalator it goes ALL the way from the bottom to the top. Marked on town maps

Situated on an elevation dominates the whole city of Espoleto. Well proportioned this ancient fortress houses the Ducal Museum

Worth the visit for the views...use the elevators and escalators to get up if it's hot. Not so much to see in museum but lovely to walk around and very spacious. Buy the Spoleto card for €9.50 rather than pay the €7.50 entrance fee and then visit other sites.

Thank goodness for elevators!

The kind planners of modern Spoleto have made visiting their city easy, thanks to a series of lifts and motorized walkways, which take you from the very bottom to the top - where the imposing La Rocca looks out over the wonderful countryside. It's a beautiful fortress, and don't miss looking down onto the ancient aquaduct.

Beautiful! Worth the visit

This was the first castle I had ever toured. I couldn't help but imagine myself as Lucrezia Borgia wandering the hallways or hearing the sounds of horses hooves in the courtyard. Wonderfully preserved with amazing views of the area. By the Spoleto card, as you pretty much pay for La Rocca and get everything else for 2 euro.
