Overview
More
Dates back to the 1124 agreement with bishop Altemanno, when the citizens of Riva were granted the right to build a new fortress on the lake shore. The course of history has left its mark on the Rocca which has been altered multiple times. In the early 16 century, it was refurbished to make it a fitting temporary residence of the bishop princes. It underwent a radical transformation in the mid-19th century, when it was turned into an Austro-Hungarian barracks and lost all its medieval and renaissance features. Recent restoration work has revealed some of the original structures and made it a suitable home for the museum. The view from the keep is truly magnificent.

Very good museum/art gallery in a beautiful lakeside setting. Plenty going on outside too, with shops, cafes, street entertainers.

Essential for those little items to take home especially leather and summer dresses for the ladies. Very popular with locals and tourists alike.

Just another great part of the Old Town, sitting under a dramatic moutain, looking onto and up the lake.

The Rocca Castle is a very interesting mixture of a local museum and old fortress. There are many exhibits from local artists and artifacts from the local area. Much of the areas history is explained. On a rainy day it is a welcome diversion.

We had a fantastic time at the Rocca. It's huge, and there's plenty to see from photographic gallery showing the lake in the early 1900s, to a children's quiz which we all enjoyed, to artefacts from Roman times, and a climb to the top of...More

Nice up-hill walk and incredible view once there. A must go in Riva del Garda. The last part is pretty steep, don't go if not averagly trained.
