Lovely winter resort!
Jan 2017 • Friends
Now that Christmas is fast approaching, I can't help but think of winter, snow and playing in it! I remember my visit to Campo Forogna in Terminillo last year. It is located in the Province of Rieti in the Lazio Region, about 95 kms away from the city of Rome. Campo Forogna is 1640 meters above the sea-level up the slope pf Mount Terminillo. It is a lovely place in summer, but I love it more in winter when it becomes a wonderful skiing resort! They have beautiful hotels and restaurants and winter sports facilities in the area.

Aside from being a good winter resort, the place is also rich in history. The fascist dictator Mussolini said to have discovered the place. In the 1960's and the 1970's, Terminillo was the most popular and visited winter resort in central Italy until the place was "overcome" by more recent and modern ski resorts. However, the place remains beautiful even today, and a very relaxing place for playing in the snow, bobsled ride, building snowmen, and so forth. :D

Snow adventures near to Rome ❄️❄️❄️

Good winter place to visit for a short weekend trip. Monte Terminillo is about an hour and 45 minutes drive from Rome. It is advisable to bring some food from home as there were not much dining options available.

A peculiar breakfast
Mar 2015 • Couples
We went up at four 'o clock in the morning. I said "We could go to see the snow". In fact, we had a quite gray hard working period, and it was a bit that we did not go out of the town. The Salaria from Rome to Rieti was not too busy in the early monday morning. We asked to a barman who reassured us that the Monte Terminillo was just a few kilometers after. We arrived near the top and we found ourselves suddenly out of fog and within a beautiful snowed landscape, made more impressive by the white, clouded sky. We got a hot chocolate, and we went back whereas it was starting snowing again.

Only an hour drive away from Rome, Monte Terminillo is the only real mountain in the centre of Italy. It's still wild with horses, cows, hawks, someone says also wolves, deers...

Unspoiled and peaceful place

Only an hour drive away from Rome, Monte Terminillo is a great place to escape the crowded and noisy capital. A perfect place for hiking (from easy to hard trails), you can even see wild horses, eagles and other rare animals. Season for hiking is May to September. If you feel more comfortable with skiing or snowboarding, the winter season starts in December (check snow reports prior to go). A couple of Hotels and B&B's are available during the main seasons.

huge (apart) hotels all around which totaly spoil the atmosfere even the bars and restaurants have no 'soul'. The only nice thing is the view from the mountain. So drive up the mountain, enjoy the view and drive down!
