About Unlocking Doors
"Unlocking Doors" is an exclusive guided tour in Ragusa Ibla through the places of leisure of the late 19th century aristocratic Ragusa Ibla. The places included in the tour are: - the "Circolo di Conversazione" - the "Donnafugata Theatre" - the private garden of "Palazzo Arezzo - Bertini" These monuments, considered to be among the best attractions in Ragusa Ibla beside the baroque monuments of the UNESCO World Heritage list, have been inaccessible so far, since they are private estates. Therefore, thanks to the availability of the owners and the present members of the Circolo, the "Iblazon Association" have managed a brand new tour that opens the doors of these palaces to the visitors who want to learn more about how the members of Sicilian aristocracy lived, where they met and spent their free time together and, especially, about how they have contributed to the untouched beauty and astonishing scenario of Piazza Duomo and Corso XXV Aprile in Ragusa Ibla. The tour is led by qualified tour guides filled with genuine passion for their hometown. Through the magnificent rooms of the Circolo, the vivid splendour of the Arezzo of Donnafugata private theatre, and the charming scent of a "secret garden" hidden in the centre of the old town, they will be glad to reveal the secrets behind each site and the life of the protagonists of a glorious Ragusa Ibla, in a climate that resembles very closely the world described in "The Leopard" by G. Tomasi di Lampedusa. A pure travel in the past in the search of the true spirit of a lost Sicily. The tour guides are: - Clorinda Arezzo: B.A. in Cultural Heritage Management, M.A. student in Medieval Archaeology, Licensed Tour Guide - Damiano Bracchitta: B.A. in Classics & Archaeology, PhD student in Archaeology, Licensed Tour Guide

Had a wonderful tour this morning of 3 historic buildings that can only be accessed through this private tour. Our first guide was Ludovica , who provided access and commentary to the Circolo di Conversazione and the Teatro Donnafugata both still in use today. Fine baroque examples with interesting history as ably presented by Ludovica. She then handed us off to an ancestor of the Arezzo di Trifiletti family, Domenico, for a tour the Palazzo, which is still inhabited by the family to this day. Interesting family history and beautiful decor with a stunning view of the Cathedral. Lastly, a stop at the Cinabro Carrettieri where a charming young artist, Damian, enthusiastically explains the craft of cart making and its importance in years gone by while his partner, Biagio, demonstrated the art of carving the parts of the cart. Impressive work and clientele such as Dolce e Gabianno. Ragusa Isla is a charming town and this tour added so much richness. Highly recommend the Unlocking Doors tour.

I have covered the Donnafugata Theatre and the Palazzo Bertini Garden in separate reviews so this one is restricted to The Conversation Club. The series of rooms are opulently decorated in the Baroque domestic style with fine plasterwork, extensively decorated ceilings, magnificent chandeliers, heavy curtaining, tiled decorated floors and fine furniture. The expert academic guide illuminates the whole visit.

We had a guided tour of this wonderful place via our group tour “VJV secret Sicily” and we weren’t disappointed our guide was a French professor and was a joy to listen to, from the small Siciliani garden to the private theatre and the conversation room, and to top it of we had some bit size jellies and iced tea, a very enjoyable tour.

This was a brilliant tour of the conversation club, theatre and private garden. There was so much insight into the settings from the charming guide and the places themselves were hidden gems that we would never have seen otherwise. One of our group even got to sing from the stage of the private theatre! Highly recommend this when visiting Ragusa Ibla; it made a beautiful place even better. Thank you!

I still remember the guest singing on the stage: that's what the theatres are for! Thank you for your comment. Best regards.
