One of the oldest and most prestigious hospitals in Europe and quite prolific during the Renaissance when it had its facade decorated in a beautiful ceramic glaze frieze with figures depicting the acts of mercy.

If you are in the town then the tour around and under the old hospital is a must. Very interesting and gets you out of the sun for a little while

We were fortunate to be accosted by a local student who took great delight in explaining the old de la Robbia ceramics around the fresco. We we so lucky. don't ignore this gem of old Pistoia

this hospital was originally run by monks in the middle ages, it developed into the 21st century and has since been closed and e-located. However the ancient parts are here as a museum, see where post postmortems were held for students to watch

We went on an English tour of the underground hospital tunnels. We have a 5, 7 and 18 year old and everyone loved it! A must see if you are visiting this wonderful town.

13th century hospital which stayed working till 2013. Beautifull medical school which operated till 1844 and an interseting underground tour. English spoken.

Unfortunately it was pretty late when we came to the plaza in front of the hospital so I couldn't take good pictures of the frontal decorations because of darkness. We tried to walk inside but could see only the hospital's waiting room, nothing of interest...More
