I believe the oldest church I have been in!
Oct 2019
The Mass was great, older crowd, I felt like I stepped back in time. Center of Paestum , close to a piazza, espresso, etc.

Ancient Fifth Century Church
Jun 2019 • Couples
This fifth century church sits outside the ruins of Paestum and is small and interesting. Apparently it was added to in the 12th century. Worth a look. You will find it tucked away behind all the cafes and shops

A Beautiful Very Old Church
May 2018 • Couples
A beautiful little Romanesque chapel dating back in part to the 5th century. It is easily missed on a visit to Paestum - it is situated next to the Archaeology Museum. A three aisle church, with Roman pillars separating the side aisles from the nave.

Austerely beautiful, with a fascinating lectern fashioned from a cut-down Roman pillar,

This early Christian Basilica next to the museum is interesting to visit. We were lucky to attend a Service there.

Church built from Paestum's Ruins ...
Jun 2015 • Couples
The church is located close to the Paestum archeological site and is a quaint local structure still in active use today. The fascinating aspect is that the stones used for constructing the church in the 400's - 500's AD were actually salvaged from the Paestum site and reused! Amazing, but this happened at so many sites all through Italy. Fascinating. ...

Nice Ancient Church
Oct 2015 • Couples
So many churches in Italy are crowded, but with the fine Greek and Roman ruins across the street, the Church of the Assumption is often empty, which is a shame, as it is itself worth visiting. People have worshipped here for more than a millennium, and still do today. We liked it for its nice, compact features, and the sense of solitude.

Beautiful church near the ruins at Paestum
Oct 2015 • Friends
Situated away from the main thoroughfare in a charming little piazza, this old church is typical of a southern Italian religious edifice. Next door is the old palace of the bishops, now the community town hall.
