Be prepared to do some hiking. But definitely worth it. The caves are under the entire city. They were built for protection. Now mostly for storage.

While staying in Orvieto we toured the underground excavations that were under most of the homes. Used for business, manufacturing, bird raising and storage, the caverns were remarkable. The area under the homes was apparently very soft volcanic and easy to create areas under the...More

This was our second time to visit Orvieto and we decided to do this tour. We got the last 2 places for the 12.20 slot with an English speaking guide. It was so interesting to see where people lived and worked in the past and...More

If you're wishing to do an English speaking tour make sure you check first at the office for available times, because those are only available several times through out the day (at least when we were there). We loved this tour! It was informative and...More

My husband and I were amazed by the underground areas in Orvieto. The hour long tour took us to two caves and was led by a very informative guide. If you are going to visit this area, I would definitely recommend the Underground caves tour.

Many steep steps, but worth every one. Great tour with an appropriate mix of history, geography and geology that puts one in the Etruscan and Middle Ages. Our guide was excellent and although doing six tours a day, kept an enthusiasm level that made our...More

The ticket will allow you to see two caves with a guide. Our guide was incredibly informative and interesting. You will learn about the history of Orvieto in addition to seeing the caves. Our group of teenagers really enjoyed it.

Of the $$ spent to tour things in Orvieto, this was the best. Full of historical facts, interesting to step back in time. We learned that there are 1400existing caves in Orvieto, so when we returned to our entail we asked the hostess and she...More
