Nice view (and free)

Not much to see, but you can enter for free and enjoy nice views of the shoreline, the harbour and the city.

Interesting

This castle was built in the late 1400's. The Aragonese family built it over an older 14th century structure. It was heavily damaged in WWII by both German bombs and American grenades. Of the four towers only three survive.

Nice walk
Jun 2019 • Couples
We walked around in Ortona for a few ours one evening. The castle is nice to walk around with beutiful sights high up from the see. From the castello you should go up the little street into the historic village. There we found the best restaurant on the whole trip! Vico Bonelli.

Beautifully restored castle

Sea view and excess to downtown Ortona with great pubs and restaurants, weekly market and shopping promenade and coast view. Ortona also has a harbour with great fresh fish. I buy my fish here when staying at In Fraia Vacation Home Rental minutes away by car.

Ortona’s must see
Sep 2018 • Family
Because of tragic history of WW2, Ortona has not much to offer as 80% of city perished.
Castello presents mostly the outer walls, but it offers great view on the see and many picturesque photo shoots.

A pleasant Castle ruin
Apr 2018 • Family
We visited Castello Aragonese whilst in Abruzzo and quite honestly struggling for things to do and to fill our time. Generally, the whole region seems to lack the push of a good Minister for Tourism so many of the ‘attractions’ are poorly signposted and often difficult to find. That was not the case with Castello Aragonese as we found the location quite easily and for no cost managed to explore the castle ruins. On the whole very enjoyable, a good lookout area and well worth doing to kill twenty minutes or so

Stunning views

The location of the castle at one of Ortona, overlooking the sea to the east and countryside to the north and west makes it a great place for photos.
It's free to enter, but does close over lunch. The steps unfortunately don't make it wheelchair friendly.

Must See if You are In Ortona
Jul 2017 • Couples
If you are in Ortona, you need to visit Castello Aragonese. This Renaissance castle overlooks the Adriatic sea and is fantastic spot for photos. There is no cost to enter the castle (there is not much to see inside), but the views from the walls of Ortona are spectacular.
