After some days of exploration, most tourists seem to skip "yet another churches". In this very case it would be a mistake - the interior was a nice surprise given pretty standard and shy exterior. Do not rush to duomo!
Entered almost by accident as we sought shade more than anything else. The altar area was stunning in this empty church and there was inspirational art all around. The open architecture made it seem larger than it was and raised our eyes to heaven. Not...More
We were literally the only people in this church during our visit. It is so interesting in that the side chapels and ceiling are painted as a 3-D illusion. Visiting this church is a very unique and intimate experience.
The Chiesa Del Gesu is a prime example of why we rarely pass a potentially significant church in Europe regardless of its affiliation. It's difficult to understand how so many are unknowing of its wonders, the incredible variety of its expression.
