Exquisite

We had a nice and informative wine experience: tour of the cellar and history + splendid tasting - 100% worth the fee (you can choose for either 3 or 6 glasses). The history of the hedgehog and family was captivating. Extra surprise: our guide was Dutch, so everything was explained in our own language. He really took the time to answer our questions and was ‘gezellig’. Grazie mille!

Fantastic experience
Sep 2020
We booked a tour of the wine cellars including a tasting in september 2020. During the tour of the breathtaking cellars our guide shared the great myth of the de Ricci family as well as the history of the palace and cellars with us. As we descended further into the cellars, we were taken further back in time, to end up at the origin of Tuscan civilization, 2500 years ago. The tasting was perfect, with 6 great wines, accompanying bites and very knowledgeable staff. Cannot wait to open the bottles that we took home with us.

Interesting cellar and delicous wine

The tour guide was very competent and the wine cellar in the middle of the city impressive. The wine we tasted was delicious and they filled our glasses very generously.

This one is to visit!
Sep 2019
When approaching the town of Montepulciano, can see lots and lots of wine related proposals: tastings and visits. Is all about the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. We visited the other wine cellar (by the Big Square, Piazza Grande) it was OK but a little further we came across with this surprise. We entered through this building (Palazzo Ricci) unimaginable that through an “equestrian” staircase (wonder if in the old times they used horses to transport wine barrels up and down!) we would tour an underground world of tunnels, Etruscan caves, water wells, aisles and naves, an underground cathedral of wine!. Free entry, English spoken, tasting if interested, a must do when in Montepulciano.

Historical vintner, great staff!, must see.

While there are little wine shops every other door, none offered 200 year old architecture with old barrels the way it was done long ago. Wandering through cavernous spaces surrounded by wine barrels was truly special. Once into the tasting room, the two proprietors were friendly, knowledgable and even made us a reservation at a sold out resturaunt that required reservations. We bought some reserve and can’t wait for arrival.

Fantastic visit to the Cathedral of Wine!

Our tour at de Ricci was nothing short of amazing. The history of the place itself was just mind blowing. The wines were all terrific and the winemaker and his wife were both delightful as were the other staff. We loved everything we tasted and especially enjoyed the wine makes hommage to his father. The legend of the hedgehogs role in the making of great wine in the region is worth the trip! We bought several cases and will definitely be a repeat customer!

We wandered through the cellars which was interesting but when it came to the tasting the the staff were cold to say the least. Lady was not friendly and quite rude so we left and went somewhere else

Beautiful wine cellar with an intriguing story (myth?)
Oct 2019 • Friends
This cantina is one of the older wine cellars in Montepulciano. It’s got a beautiful approach while you walk through the caves to the basement. They allow wine tasting for two bottles free of charge, and beyond that, it’s still free if you buy a bottle. They do have an interesting legend about the De Ricci family (that involves a hedgehog) so if you like mythical stories and a little piece of historical trivia, do go visit this place!! The staff is helpful, quite knowledgeable about the wine and the wine is good too. We ended up buying two bottles and can’t wait to open them on a special occasion with friends!

Very rude !
Oct 2019 • Friends
We went after reading the amazing reviews here and were quite surprised at the rude behaviour of one of the staff .
The cellar was very impressive , unlike any other but the tasting was rushed and done out of compulsion , maybe because it was at the end of the day but was quite shocked at her behaviour . We were all keen to know more about the region’s wine making and about the group but we were given only abrupt answers and made to feel very unwelcome .

Wow and Wow!

Intriguing adventure deep down into the hillside of Montepulciano to learn more about Vino di Nobile. Charmed by the wine tasting in the chilly cellar (be sure to bring a wrap for your shoulders). The wine was noteworthy and we ordered 6 bottles to be shipped home. Can't wait to taste them again!
