The trip is quick and very safe albeit a steep incline and only costs 7 Euros round trip. The car can take up to 40 people at a time and the car runs every 30 minutes.

The funicular is worth it for a great view over montecatini and the surrounding countryside. It’s about a 30 minute stroll from the center of town. Montecatini Alto is an interesting but hilly place to wander.

How very Italian to have to take an antique funicular train to get to the other part of town! We enjoyed our whole evening, taking a stroll through the Park of the Bathhouses to get to the funicular, barely missing one train and taking the...More

Picturesque little thing. If you can, stand on the front or back of the train. Dont race for a seat inside. Someone like us will just block your view. Its well worth the dirty looks.

Staying in Montecatini Terme during our Tuscan vacation, we kept hearing about Montecatini Alto. After some research, we realized this was a small village at the top of the mountain overlooking M. Terme. The walk to the funicular from our hotel was just minutes, so...More

We discovered the ‘Funicolare’ after doing some research on Montecatini and this flashed up fairly high on the agenda. It was only a 15 min walk from our hotel in the beautiful sunshine, so we decided to visit Montecatini Alto via this traditional mode of...More

Four of us took the funiculare to Montecatini Alto. It was fun, efficient and prompt. Being able to traverse the terrain in a machine built in 1898 was pretty cool. This is a good thing to do with groups of all types including kids. Children...More

Loved this ride up the mountain to Montecatini Alto. It leaves every half hour. You can grab a snack or a cappuccino at the bottom while you wait for the cable car. Try to get the front outside for the ride up and back down.

We did not go to Rome, not enough time if you want to see Florence, Pisa and the Tuscany countryside too! If you want to go to Rome, just do that!
