So good we decided to live here!
Jul 2017 • Couples
We have been coming to Mondovi since 2011 to fly our hot air balloon (the conditions are perfect!). In 2017 we decided to move to the town and ended up living in the piazza. The piazza has everything you could need...a selection of cafes to buy a coffee and brioche in the morning, two great restaurants, a cremerie selling delicious ice cream, bakery (not always open and rather expensive but with delicious breads and cakes) and the practical stuff too - a post office, pharmacy, newsagent and bank. On Friday mornings there is a small market selling cheese and vegetables. Plus most weekends there is something on...music, a food festival, film screening. You can even avoid driving up and down the wi st streets by catching the funicular up and down to the old town (1.20 euros for a hour ticket). Feel very lucky to live here!!

Beautiful Piazza with architecturally interesting buildings
Oct 2016 • Couples
This medieval piazza is dominated by the Baroque Chiesa della Missione, but it is surrounded by many very interesting buildings with a variety of architectural styles. These buildings house many shops and cafes.

Lovely little square and great to watch the world go by!
Jun 2015 • Couples
Lovely little square at the top of the funicular (or the walk up hill) with lots of little coffee shops, bars etc. A lovely place to sit and watch life going by and a lovely old town to walk around.

Pretty little piazza
Aug 2015 • Family
After taking the funicular to the top you are greeted by a charming little piazza and a small town, with some stunning views and a very good gelateria. There's not a lot to see or do, but it's pretty and peaceful.

Beautiful restored Piazza
Aug 2015 • Family
We failed to get out really early to avoid the heat but by mid morning we were once again strolling around Piazza. The jewel in the crown here is the stunning Baroque church the Chiesa de la Missione that overlooks the Piazza Maggiore. There is a bigger Cathedral church off the other end of the piazza but this one is glorious. Built in the C17 it is stunningly decorated throughout internally by Andrea Pozzo. It is his first major work, before he went on to fame in Rome and elsewhere and includes an amazing trompe l'oeil dome and the only remaining example of a Baroque era mechanism that allows a painting of the patron saint to be raised up during services. The many other historic buildings around the centre have all been carefully restored. There are a few nice shops and restaurants but the place does not feel touristy.
The piazza also gives access to the top of the funicular railway that takes people up and done between The centre of Mondovi and Piazza. It is a neat modern device that replaces earlier models and gives great views on the way.

Classic Piazza
Aug 2014 • Family
Beautiful piazza, not over restored and as a first taste of Italy for us made us feel were in something very authentic. A good array of shops, bars and restaurants. We there during a fiesta when the piazza and surrounding streets were decorated with multi colored umbrellas, the whole place looked fantastic.
