Few cities are entered through such an impressive triumphal gateway which was built for the Holy Roman Emporer Charles V back in the 16th century.

A magnificent triumphal arch built in 1548 for Charles V, it is the entrance to Lecce, and the start of the road to Naples !!

I discovered Porta Napoli because I had looked up a car park nearby, a somewhat ignominious way to discover a significant historic structure at the entrance to the city on the road from Naples. It deserves better. I noted the address as Piazzetta Arco di...More

Of thevtwo, i much prefered this gate, maybe because of its larger size, but also because it looked more decorative than the other two gates.again, nice colour in the sun and photogenic. Worth the walk to get there.

I lived 50 meters from it and it was the first thing I saw when entering old town of Lecce and it is as beautiful and lovely as the old town itself. Go and check it out!

Excellent gateway to the city and lovely to see this, great decorative coat of arms and well. Lovely to just wander through, cars pass through over to the right hand side but really quite a large structure apparently built in 1548!

We had motored from Brindisi and found some parking on the Via F Calasso which is adjacent to the Porta Napoli. We found this to be a convenient entry point into the ancient part of the city.

A more recent addition to the architecture of Lecce, situated strikingly where most guided tours of the city commence. Interesting carving of coats of arms, and a great starting point.

The Porta Napoli is a rather unique building in Lecce, erected in honour of the Hasburg Emperor Charles V. It has elements of barroque architecture with bas reliefs on one facade, while the other is rather barren. An impressive piece of architecture to admire from...More
